Subject : Not sure whether to buy a clearblue monitor??
Hi
We have been trying on and off for ages to get pg. I've tried cheapie opks which I find quite hard to read. I was wondering whether to buy a clearblue fertility monitor. I'm under the impression that they are much better than opks as they give better readings and pinpoint fertile time. Just a bit worried about the cost of it, I pointed them out to dh and he was whinging that they cost £99. I've recently turned 34 and feel the need to get pg again asap though so the cost doesn't really matter to me!
DS is nearly 7 (there's gonna be a massive age gap if we ever do get pg!) and he wasn't planned so ttc has been a bit info overload eg I take pregnacare, I've used opks, sperm friendly lube, cushion under hips for 30 mins, morning bd cos I read the spermies are more 'awake' then, eating pineapples, having honey, green tea and anything else you can think off so the monitor is probably my best bet before a trip to GP.
Any advice you ladies have on clearblue will be appreciated. We've only just started trying again after 3 month break.
Meem x

Hi Meem,
It's my first month of using a CBFM.
We've been properly trying for about 3 months, last month I used FR OPK's and I have to say I found them very hard to read. I have quite long cylces at about 35 days, and used the 20 pumper pack of OPK's. I thought I had my LH surge at about 14 days before AF, and that was my last but one stick, so stopped testing the day after.
I think I actually OV'd much later at about 10/9 days before AF, as I've noticed a trend with tummy pains this time each month, and each month we've not been BD's this time as we thought we had passed OV. If I do OV this late it might be hard for me to get pg (I've heard this is a common problem after being on the pill for a while). Anyhow, back to the CBFM.....
I'm currently on CD15 and have still not had a high - I was expecting to get automatic highs from about CD 12, as it's my first month it has to get to know my cycles and I would have thought, initially it may presume I was reaching OV based on a normal 28 day cycles - I was then expecting to see lots of highs til I OV'd.
Because of this I'm quite impressed - it must be reading the sticks well as it seems to be in sync with my theory of late OV and long cycles, and is not just presuming a standard cycle with the 1st month is use.
I have read loads of reviews and a lot of people that have been trying ages get the BFP the 1st month of using it. I think those of us with slightly longer or irregular cycles are those that will benefit from using one.
I have to say I have been less stressed too this month using it as it is so easy to read, I'm not constantly worrying about missing OV!
Go on - buy one! :D:lol:

Hi,
I'm on my first month of CBFM and am already in love with it! It didn't up my first peak until CD17, meaning I didn't ov until CD17/18 which is later than thought. It's taken all my stress out of thinking that my body doesn't work and now I'm on CD25 and into my 1ww!
I brought mine off ebay with 20 testing sticks for just over £50, I've also heard of some other ladies getting it off Amazon, so I'd check both of those sites first. Just remember that you need to put it on in the first few days of your cycle, so you'll need it for then if you do decide to get one.
Good luck

Hi Rainbow,
How many highs did you get before your peak? How long are your cycles?

Hi Chocolatemuffin,
I got 10 highs before my first peak - I never thought that it was going to come I usually had 26/28 day cycles, then last month I had a 31 day cycle, and coupled with the fact I didn't ov until CD18, I'm counting a 31 day cycle this month too.
Hope that helps

That helps Rainbow - I'm expecting to get a lot of highs before my peak! My poor hubby won't know whats hit him!
We've not been BD much the begining of the month as I don't want to us to be worn out as I think I OV late!....... my hubby thinks the CBFM is hilarious.
He calls it the S*x machine, he was tempted to POAS himself this morning to see what level his fertility was........ oh dear....... what has TTC done to us all, I never thought it would be this complicated!
Slightly off the subject - sorry girls!

Hi there,
Just wanted to say I bought one and was one of the lucky ones who got pregnant in month 1 of using it and am now 21 weeks pregnant. I did ovulate a few days later than i thought i did so im sure having the CBFM meant I caught everything at the right time. Good luck with whatever you decide to do x
