Subject : Can I join you

Hi everyone just wanted to say hi and can I join you, We've been trying for a year now. I have been popping in and out and realise that lots of you have been trying for more than this but I could do with some moral support.

I've made an appointment to see the doctor tomorrow (TMI) my period has so far lasted for 12 days and shows no sign of letting off ;( not happened before, been quite regular so I'm going to see if we can start to check that everything is ok.

What should i expect from the doc?

Bit of background, I'm 30 my husband is 37, I've been off the pill for 12 months, can't think of anything else to tell really.

Thanks in advance

Hiya - and welcome to the forum. You are very welcome to join us here, we are a lovely bunch:)
I can't really offer any advice re your long lasting AF, but I hope the Dr can give you some answers. They can start tests after one year of trying, so I hope you get a helpful Dr that can get you moving quicker along your road to your bfp!! If you do get someone helpful, they will ask your history of ttc (including when you came of the pill and your cycles since etc), and then maybe send you for some bloods and your OH for a semen analysis. These steps get the ball rolling at least!
Let us know how you get on!

Hi - sorry to hear you have been trying for so long - hopefully you can be on the move again soon.

As sanguine said docs will probably look at your cycle history, medical history and send you for day 5 and day 21 bloods to see what your hormone levels are. And will probably send your OH for a semen analysis. They may also refer you to a subfertility clinic at your hospital but generally this cant be done until you get bloods done. So if they do refer you dont make an appointment for too soon as they need semen results and hormone levels - we learned this the hard way!

Good luck - hope you have a lovely doc, let us know what they say.

thanks Sanguine and Lizzie J. Been to the docs tonight and got a very helpful doc. I'm having some bloods done in a couple of weeks for long AF, DH is going for semen tests and I'm being refered for an ultrasound and 21 day bloods as soon as I have a 'normal' AF.

At least the ball is rolling now, and like you said Lizzie J then once we have all the results we will go to the subfertility clinic.

Where are you guys up to in all this then, if you don't mind me asking?

thanks Surprised)

Hey welcome to the forum. Glad your doctor was supportive. We have had our sa and that was fine I have been offered bloods but haven't been yet. We are just embarking on month 20. We had a mc on our 3rd cycle and nothing since.

I personally think this forum should be renamed frustration! Hope you are not here for too long if you know what I mean :)

Hiya fingerscrossed30!! Hope you're tests get done quickly.

I came off the pill nearly 15 months ago, havent had AF since December and have had all the scans, blood tests and lap & dye which all came back ok so I've been given norethisterone to bring on AF which didnt really work and clomid to make me ov which doesnt seem to have worked this cycle either!! So yes Socks is right this forum should be renamed Frustration!!

Hiya again,
Am with the vote to have this forum renamed!!!
FC30 - Glad to hear you had a helpful Dr! Hope the tests give you some answers, even if it is just that everything is a-ok, might give you the peace of mind to help you on your way to your bfp! As for me, am losing count of how many months, its coming up for two years now I guess (shudders - horrible thought!), I have PCO and have been prescribed clomid, will be starting in January.
Wishing you all the best for your journey - hope you don't stay long for the right reasons!
x
