Subject : Advice needed

Hi i need some advice my 11month old son has been poorly for the past 3 w eeks

bad chest, and has been bringing up alot of mucus.
I have taken him to the doctors twice and both times said it is a cold, also he has been doing
really bad nappies something which he hasnt done since he was a newborn.
Iam really worried now and gong to take him back to docs today .

I think you're doing what you can in regards to taking him back to the doctor. Push them to take a really good look and do thorough checks as I would have thought a cold shouldn't last that long and it may be an infection if you're unlucky. The high temp also isn't ideal. It could be that he's teething and has had a cold as teething does bring out cold like symptoms in some babes.
If you don't feel happy and feel like you're being fobbed off, then push for a second opinion if you have too.
Good luck.

I agree, I don't think a cold should last that long? Could be teething related possibly, especially with bad nappies too, or he may have had a cold that's turned into an infection?? If he's got a bad chest then the docs should take it a bit more seriously for you.
Let us know how you get on x

TMI question coming up - what colour is the mucus? If it is green then he has a bacterial infection and should get antibiotics.
Abby had a chesty cough for a couple of weeks and it cleared up really quickly once we were on antibiotics. I'm a biology teacher so I don't jump to the antibiotics immediately as I know the problems caused but a chest infection should be cleared up. If he's had a cough for that long then it should be looked at. The doctor should at least listen to his chest. If he can hear wheezing on the chest (not just the throat) then he should get antibiotics.
Bad nappies are caused by mucus going through the digestive system as a baby can't spit or blow their nose. However if the mucus is clear then it is just a cold I'm afraid.

I got nile in at the doctors and this time they checked him over
properly after i had voiced my concerns.
It turns out he has quite a bad viral infection, but have not been given
any antibiotics though been given so medinol medicine for him
and basically they said just keep an eye on him and keep central heating low as thisb can make infection worse.
will keep you all updated thankyou ladies for your advicex:\)

I'm glad you at least got some answers, It's not easy with viral infections but at least you know that he will get over it and it isn't anything more serious.
