Oscar has been awake since 11.30 screaming. He's had fresh lotion, calpol, checked him temp, nappy etc but he's not settling he's just screaming.

He won't be cuddled to sleep or let me comfort him, he won't sleep in my bed - he thinks it's play time if he's out of his cot. I tried taking him downstairs and sticking babytv on as they've got the gentle music on but he threw himself off the sofa and started pulling all his toys out. What do I do?

He's currently screaming in his cot because I need 5 minutes to collect myself before I lose my temper. He's at the stage now where he's over tired. I know no one will probably see this till the morning but it's the 2nd night now and I have absolutely no idea what to do. Normally when he's got to this stage the only thing I can do is leave him to cry himself to sleep because anything else gets him more worked up but it seems cruel when he's not well. But then everything I've tried obviously isn't working and just stimulating him more so he's getting more over tired...

Help please!!!

Unfortunately Richard's gone and I can't go to my mum's because I can't risk passing on the pox to my nieces and nephew.

I might try sticking him in the travel cot tonight either in my room or in the front room with the tv on low so there's something to distract him.

He fell asleep before I finished writing that post, woke at 5.30 and had some calpol, put an extra blanket on him and he was back asleep within 5 minutes till 8 so I've managed a bit of sleep and feel slightly human. Hopefully it's over soon x

Aw hun i totally feel for you.

As you know Archie hasn't been well for last week or so but before that we've had 2 weeks of broken nights sleep similar to your night last night.

You have no idea the amount of mummies I know with lo's this age, 12/13 months or so, that are having sleep issues just now.

I know he's not well and that is probably contributing but I honestly think part of it is just a phase. (dreaded P word !)
No idea why they go through these P's but my mantra recently has become "this too will pass".

I had to suck it up for a week or so and was up and down out of bed numerous times but a little bit of a comfort in the night and a little bit of crying it out (not too long as I'm a wuss!) seems to have done the trick.

Last night I was only up twice, but he really has been unwell. So I'm hoping that within a few nights we'll be back to the good old days. Won't lie to you, it has taken a few weeks though.

Hope he's feeling better. S x

Oh poor thing. We had a few nights like that with Cole where we just couldn't do anything with him. Glad he did go to sleep for you - and glad you managed to get some sleep too.

If he's like it again tonight (really hope he isnt!) could you try popping him in the bath with some bicarb?

Am reluctant to kia because our house is freezing at night (none of our heaters work upstairs) and if I bring him down to the baby bath in the front room he'll just want to play again. I popped an extra blanket on him when he finally went to sleep at 2.15 - he didn't feel cold but I thought it couldn't hurt and I think it did make a lot of difference. He's a good mover so can get out from under it if he gets too warm. I'll try it again tonight and if it doesn't work I'll try and find a portable heater and give him a bath

Oh dear..its not fun having a cold upstairs. Ours isn't so bad now we have central heating but the first winter after I bought my house was horrible - especially in the bathroom.

Hows he doing today after his sleep?
