Subject : Can scan dates be wrong???

Hi ladies

I saw a midwife couple weeks ago, just to sort out my booking in appointment which is in two weeks time. At the time she said i thought i would be due June 12th, having my last period 5th September on a 28 cycle.
This means i would be 8 weeks 3 days pregant today. Yesterday i went to A&E with bad stomach ache (turned out to be a water infection!) and i had a scan, the babys heatbeat was showing but the scan said i was 6 weeks 3 days. If this is the case i would have tested postive on a pregancy test at 3 weeks!

Is this right?

Thanks xxxxx

They can be wrong sometimes as babies have different growth spurt sat different times.

Saying that I actually tested positive at 3 weeks exactly from lmp and only have 24 day cycles and when i had scan they put me forward a few days so is possible to test positive at 3 weeks.

Sorry couldnt be of any more help. Hopefully you will know more when you are scanned again xx

Im not sure with my DD1 they put me back a whole 10 days from my EDD based on lmp and I kept saying no Im due 21st Aug... and I knew I had to be as I have regular 28 day cycles and hubby and I had only had sex once that whole month (Id just had a miscarriage) so I knew when Id conceived and everything

Wish I could be of more help!

i think they cant class it as dating scan till your 12 weeks + thats what i always thought anyway as they grow so different in the early stages! it will sort itself out along the way! xx

Perhaps they didn't include the first 2 weeks - before ovulation is it?

sorry g./c

they go from ur lmp because they don't know the exact date u ovulated as everyone is different even if u have the 28day cycle doesn't necessarily mean that u ovulate on the 14th day. so say ur lmp was on the 1st but u did happen to ovulate around the 14th then ur dates by the doctor would make u 2 weeks furthger than u actually are because ur lmp s 2 weeks prior to the date u actually conceived. i actually conceived ds a few days before my lmp! they won't confirm how far u are until ur 12weeks scan. hope that makes sense xx

Im also having this problem! Our bean was measuring 6 days behind which just doesnt seem to be possible - but to be honest, as long as bean has a heartbeat they are unlikley to properly date you until you have you 12 week scan which looks at everything else in lots of detail!

i always have this as i ov the day b4 period so my dates are always weird! if you are more than 2 weeks over or under your first edd they will adjust it if not they will keep it the same if that makes sense, its an outdated practise as the scanners are sensitive enough to get it down to the day!
