Subject : Dr Brown's teats

Are any of you using dr browns bottles? I got a couple to try yesterday and they seem to have helped his colic, he settles alot better after a feed... BUT...

Its taking an hour and 15mins to take 4OZ! im wondering if the teat is too slow for him, he using has teat number 2 with the advent bottles. the next size teat up for dr browns is for 3 months + and his 8 weeks tomorrow... really confussed, what do i do? what are you doing and how are you getting on?

xxx

I also changed from size 1 teats to size 2 when my son was just 8/9 weeks old and he had no problems.:\)

hi, we had the exact same problem when ds was about the same age as your lo. i bought the size 3 teats but they were far too big and he would just choke on his milk. i decided to just stick it out with the no 2's as i figured george minus colic taking over an hour to feed was better than george wih colic crying 24/7. after a few weeks he got used to the new teats and at 15 wks he downs 7oz in 20 minutes on the no 2's.
i think the bottles/teats take a while for babies to adapt to. i know that babies have to work for their milk with dr browns rather than the milk just coming out with little effort. give it a few weeks and see how he gets on. good luck! xx

We changed to Dr Browns no 2 teats at about 12 weeks and no 3 teats at about 18 weeks. The girls were slow to feed on the no 2's but they did get quicker as they got bigger and stronger. I think the difference between the Dr Browns teats and the Avent teats is that the Avent teats have multiple holes whereas the Dr Browns teats only have 1. I would persevere with the no 2's for a while and hopefully your LO will get quicker xx

I don't think you can but not 100% sure. I think it's something to do with the fact that the Avent teats have a built in air vent within the teats whereas the Dr Browns rely on the long tube. Hopefully someone else know! xx

no, you are not meant to use any other teats in the dr brown bottles. i did know why but can't remember now. dr browns even say (maybe on their website or in the instructions) not to use avent teats even though they will fit. xx
