Subject : for those who never had morning sickness...

Hi Ladies,

Obviously there is a thought that morning sickness = healthy pregnancy, so do you mind if I ask whether you worried about not getting morning sickness and when did the worrying stop? At your booking in appointment did the midwife ask anymore when you said you hadnt had morning sickness?

I'm 7 weeks today and so far not had any proper morning sickness - the random odd hours of queasiness is all I've had Happy Sore (.)(.) come and go, so its a relief to be making a few trips to the bathroom overnight and be battling constant tiredness. Oh, due to a scare also had an early scan at 6+2 and saw our little beans heartbeat Happy So all in all I'm not worried about the lack of sickness anymore, just curious how other people have felt

Thanks!
N

I've only had a few bouts and they didn't start until about 8 or 9 weeks. I worried a lot about the whole sickness = healthy pregnancy but it really is just a myth. I don;t think my midwife has asked about sickness either way. Make the most of it!

hello

I never had any at all - the only one of my group not to suffer badly! we did have an early scan at 8 weeks but more for impatience perposes really. i am not sure i could of coped with sickness with my job so i am very lucky!

my midwife just refered to me as luckily with my lack of symptoms, so far baby appears ot be healthy and a good size so i dont buy the sickness=healthy baby thing, it is also suppose to indicate intelligence too! but i dont buy that either

hi g/c from baby

that phrase 'morning sickness= healthy pregnancy' annoys the hell out of me. i honestly think that not having morniong sickness/ sypmtoms wld be less of a worry for mums to be if that phrase wasn't used, it can cause vulnerable women to panic unnecessarily. i had no morning sickness, i had the odd, very rare feeling of queasiness but this was only really if i got too hungry, so easliy fixed. i didn't worry about it at all but purely because i knew otehr ppl who had had healthy pregnancies without morning sickness, otherwise i probably wld've been a wreck, thanks to phrases as above. i only had sore boobs and even then no more than when due a period and this only lasted until i was about 8/9weeks pregnant. ds is now a happy little 7month old, and just shows that that saying (and others like it) are just wives tales. everyone is different and every pregnancy is different, i do wish that pregnant ladies (and those around them) wld remember this and that sickness or lack of has no bearing on a healthy bean.

so after tht little rant lol.... lack of sickness didn't worry me at all, but if hadn't known others the same then i probably wld have been fraught with worry, but mainly due to things like that saying, if that wasn't around and ppl stopped saying it then ppl proabably wldn't think it was a bad thing. i consider myself very lucky to have got off light on the symptom side lol, next time i'll probably get it all tho lol xx

With my first I had very little just would wretch slightly when I first woke up but that was it but tbh I didn't think anything of it as I wasn't really sure what was normal. I was never asked about it either really. This time was a different story though and I still get days of being really sick at 24 weeks lol. I know which I would prefer and it would be the no sickness one anyday lol x

In my first pregnancy the first tim I was sick was at 7+2 (remember cos it was the day of my early scan), then I was sick every day til 16 weeks, and felt sick til 18 weeks - it was reassuring in the earlier days I suppose, but if you're not feeling sick, enjoy it!

I'm now 6 weeks with no2 and was sick yesterday and today - I'd started telling myself I might get away with it this time after speaking to someonewho had no sickness in her pregnancy, but not so far!

I think sickness can indicate a healthy pregnancy, but I certainly don't think no sickness means there's anything wrong.

it can be a sign of a good pregnancy due to increased hormones but doesnt always mean anything.
i was extremely tired through out which has got a little better recently but has always been what hit me most. amybe some people get other symptoms worse??

"I think sickness can indicate a healthy pregnancy,"

sorry but i beg to differ, sickness, along with all other symptoms, is just a reaction to the pregnancy hormone, so all it really means is that u have that hormone, not whether its a healthy pregnancy or not, just means u have fallen pregnant. don't wanna upset or worry someone but i basically think that sayings like that etc don't help anyone, much like the sayings about heart rate and which sex, altho much more damaging to the mum's feelings xx

I not been or felt sick once and I am nearly 27 weeks.

I never really worried about it, as my sister did not get any sickness in either of her pregnancies and everything was fine!

My MW did not query it, she just said I was one of the lucky ones!

Thanks ladies, it really does help to hear from others without morning sickness when it seems everyone else in due in june is/was suffering so badly.

At one point it was driving me crazy, but know I'm more relaxed and relieved its passed me by so far. My mum didnt get any sickness with me or my brother, so hoping I'm in the lucky 20% as well!

Hi,
In my first pregnancy I only had nausesa and unfortunately this pregnancy ended with a missed mc, with my second I had severe sickness - I mean 24 hours of violent vomiting! and I lost over a stone in weight and went on to have my son who will be one on the 17th....I have just found out I am expecting again and have only had mild nausea so was so worried that I had mc again...I had such anxiety attacks the day of our 12 wk scan but happy to report a little kicking baby all well, so I think the myths about morning sickness are a load of old wives tales and not to worry about them as I think every womans pregnancies are different and try not to compare as it just stresses you out.

I wish everyone happy and healthy pregnancies xx

It is total RUBBISH that sickness = a healthy pregnancy. I get so annoyed that an old wives tale is banded about as truth and gets women worried and anxious.

Sickness is a reaction to the high levels of hormones and some peoples bodies adjust to the levels without sickness and others do not. Its not a sign of anything, just different bodies responding in different ways.

I have not had a moments sickness, just the odd short wave of nausea very early on and thats it. Neither my Mum nor my sister ever had morning sickness either. My baby is absolutely fine, the pregnancy is developing at a normal rate and all is well. My midwife says its pot luck if you get sickness or don't, nothing more.

Please don't worry about a lack of sickness. Cherish it and enjoy it. Some poor women suffer terribly and it ruins the early stage of pregnancy for many. Don't let worry about not feeling sick, ruin yours!

i was very worried about my second pregnancy as my first pregnancy i had every symptom and my second pregancy i had no symptoms what so ever! what worried me more was when i was 7wks pregnant i had a fresh bleed so that doubled my worries,i had a early scan and found out everything was ok but i also found out i was having twins so i did lots of research online and found out i was supposed to have all the symptoms and a thousand times worse,so this made me even more worried on top of that i had read about vanishing twin syndrome so i was a bag of nerves LOL! the mw didnt ask anymore questions becouse i didnt have any morning skickness,i started to relax on my second scan which i had when i was 13wks pregnant,i had anouther fresh bleed and passed clots but i went on to deliver a healthy but very early boy and girl,so please try and relax

Hi nessie

I'm due in June as well - 9 + 3, and I haven't had any sickness at all. To be honest I haven't had many symptoms, no sore boobs either. The only symptoms i've had are tiredness, bad back and constipation (TMI!) but all of these have practically gone since 8 weeks! Like you, I had an early scan due to bleeding at 6 + 4 and everything was fine. I then managed to convince myself last week that i was no longer pregnant purely because i felt fine and didn't have any symptoms so i had another scan on Sunday and all was fine. I have decided not to worry now and just accept that I'm lucky! As you are too... Hope that helps :)

My first pg was sickness and nausea-free. I worried like mad up util my scan (not really because of the lack of sickness, just generally) but once I'd seen all was ok I felt much better.

This time round I was nauseous for the first 10 or 12 weeks, and again at the scan all was well.

So from this I've definitely concluded that every pregnancy, even in the same mother, is different, and sickness is NOT necessarily an indicator of a healthy pregnancy.

Grrr, the old morning sickness = healthy pregnancy is soooo annoying!
I hadn't had any sickness come 7 weeks but then had one afternoon of feeling sick and texted my mate who was a new mum. She said 'oh that means good strong pregnancy hormones' so what do you know, I have a couple more afternoons of feeling a bit off then nothing and I too posted on here because I was also worried - and got the same sort of posts you are getting, thank god for BE!!
I am now 28 weeks and everything has been absolutely fine. My cousin didn't get much sickness either so I do think it can run in families. My acupuncture lady even said it is a 'middle class illness' (and she is very middle class)!!! Not sure I agree with that but I think she had a small point in that some women who continue to rush around and end up tired / hungry will tend to get more sickness....
A girl on my train had awful morning sickness and sadly she miscarried so there are plenty of examples either way.

I do wish this particular myth could be put to bed once and for all!!

Sorry Siany, I didn't word that very well - I don't at all think that you need to be sick or feel sick to be having a healthy pregnancy - what I think I mean is that it just helps when you are feeling dreadful to think that at least it means something is happening, it's reassuring in a way, although I know deep down it doesn't necessarily mean anything. Sorry if I caused any offence, I really didn't mean to, and I do know how insensitive and inappropriate it is to worry someone unnecessarily about the pregnancy or anything else. Just feeling quite rotten at the moment and trying to tell myself it's positive. In all honesty I'd think myself lucky to have no sickness.
