Subject : Any of you ladies having IUI??
Hi :\)
I'm GC from LTTC and was hoping for some information from any of you ladies that are going through IUI??!
Looks like it's IUI or IVF next for me but iwas wondering if i'm eligible for IUI on the NHS when i'm not eligible for IVF??
I can't seem to find the guidelines on the healthcare websites, i'm in Hampshire, am 32 years old and i have no kids but my DH has a son from previous relationship, i also have PCOS.
Did anyone get IUI on the NHS?
What were the requirements for eligibility?
If you went private how much did it cost?
Sorry, so many questions?
Thanks and good luck to you all x

Hi GlennsAngel
The funding available for fertility treatment varies for different PCTs, and will depend on factors like age, previous children etc. Your GP will be able to tell you your local PCT's policy on funding. If you aren't happy with it, there are ladies on the board who have appealled funding decisions by their local PCT.
We are having IUI, which is being funded by the NHS. We are currently on cycle 3 of 4, and if that doesn't work then we are entitled to two rounds of IVF. I know that we are incredibly lucky to have this treatment funded.
I am 35 (MrD is 37) and we are TTC our first.

I know i'm not gonna get IVF as DH has a son but he didn't have a clue about the IUI?!
Whereabouts are you in the country?
I hope you succeed x x

Hiya GA, unfortunately I do not think you will be eligible for IUI if you're not eligible for IVF. I am not eligible for either due to my age (27). Do try to check it out, but wouldn't get your hopes up hon. :-( Sorry not to be more positive hon xxx

Thanks ladies.....
*MrsD*.... thanks for those links, think i'll give the PCT a call, put my mind at rest!
tbd...... I'm thinking that you may be right, so i'm not getting my hopes up,seems so unfair doesn't it?
And your age should be perfect for having treatment really!!
Looked onto going private and looks like it may cost around £675 which isn't as bad as cost for IVF!!

Hi Hon, I'm nearly 32 and in hampshire too..
Unfortunatley they do not offer IUI as they dont see it as cost effective, they prefer to offer 1 cycle of ivf, the guideline are changing as of dec 1st, they will pay for 1 cycle of ivf for ladies aged 30 -34, you should have been trying for 3 years, but they will consider you earlier with diagnoised fertility. My consult say's he will refer me as of dec, which means i will be 19 months, but he says i am unlikely to fall naturally.
My consult at Princess Anne say's IUI worth a shot (no pun intended )
they do offer the treatment there but you pay privately.. first go £800, plus £200 for drugs, plus £50 admin or something, then 2nd go they knock £200 off, so £600, plus drugs.
Obviously check around for other clinics.. The wessex or Woking is prob closest for you.
Good Luck.
Gem x

Hi Gem
I've replied on your other thread, but just saw these costings... It might be possible to save a bit of money on the drugs? I think if you get a list of what you need, then shop around it is possible to get them over the counter for a lot less.
I confess I don't know the details, but others might have experience of this.
xx

Hey glenns angel, yes it's crazy isn't it! All the docs I've seen have said the same but they don;t make the rules unfortunately.
I don;t mind you asking. I think it's going to come in at around £6500 + including all the drugs, scans, blood tests, egg collection and embryo transfer. A lot of money, but I'm viewing it as some people spend this on a holiday or a new kitchen....and I'd much rather have a baby! xx
