Subject : my 37+3 midwife appointment !
Well once again my mw has shown how pants she is, BP is fine, then she measured bump which is showing the same as last week in the growth scan so all is well there. Then she says, if i hadn't already sent you for a scan then i would send you, as she is still not sure how he is lying. She is sure that his bum is up the top and doesn't think its the head but as i've had a scan she is reassured he is head down as there is not enough room for him to move. Also said that his head is deep down and am 3/5th engaged and could go at any time, although she wouldn't be suprised if i went a week early going by his measurements as growth scan. She was also on about the swine flu vaccine as our doctors received theirs yesterday. And i wont see her again now for another 2 weeks, shouldn't it be very week after 37 weeks ?
i come out of there more confused than when i went in !!!

GC from Dec
Usually appts are every 2 weeks upto 40 weeks when MW usually see's you weekly.
I'm surprised at 3/5 she said you go at anytime as i was told baby can still bob in and out at that level, but again all mw's seem to say different things.

I was told by my usual midwife it would be weekly from 37 weeks, then I saw a different one last week who obviously went to same midwifery school as yours who booked me in for 2 weeks!
I think they make it up as they go along!

Think everyone must go to see m/w at different times as I went at 36 weeks then 38 and now its weekly, so back tomorrow.
My mw said last week that head was 4/5 engaged, but that she was expecting to see me over the weekend when she was on call. Hmmm well I am still here and have had no twinges whatsoever the past couple of days so she was wrong!!
As long as everything else is ok I guess thats what counts and its just a case of waiting.

the last time i saw her i was 4/5ths, this time 3/5th but she said he is 'very deep' i could have told her that !
thing is, this thing with the way he's lying is in my opinion quite important (one of my work colleagues wife went through an horrific birth, heart stopped 4 times, ended up with a stroke and is now paralysed on her left arm due to undiagnosed breech) so obviously that plays on my mind loads, i think we just have a nightmare of a baby who likes winding up the midwife and playing 'guess which way up i am'. I dont mind not seeing her for two weeks, but am definitely going to up the raspberry tea (and bought the tablets), may even chase my poor husband around the bedroom tonight !!!

Yep, I think she knows three out of the four different midwives I've seen over the last 8 months! I'm not convinced any of them knows what they're talking about. At my last appointment, the midwife was useless. My husband was pretty unimpressed, as he pointed out, it's a good job I'm fairly confident in my body's own ability to give birth because he's not convinced she knows which end a baby would come out of anyway...
Why is maternity care in this country so hit and miss? I've heard nothing but good things from some ladies on here about their midwives, and the one I saw at 34 weeks who was covering for my regular midwife was amazing, built my confidence no end and seemed really on the ball. It's worrying really....

I always find that i am being rushed when i see the midwife, its a quick BP check, feel of the tummy and check babies HR and thats is. I was tiold that after 36 weeks i had to see her weekly but she has been on annual leave and i have only just seen her and i am just over 39 weeks! She is not there next week so it will be 2 weeks again til i see her (unless baby arrives!) She is the only midwife at the GP surgery.

That is so crap! Apart from my mw building my hopes up last week she has been really good and I dont have any complaints. Well there are two mw's i think they work on alternate weeks but i usually end up seeing the same one. It is fairly standard procedure every time I go but I thought that is just as I haven't had many problems during my pregnancy (fingers crossed).
Will let you know what she says in the morning after I have been again.
