Subject : happyland - what age?
My lo turns 18mths next week. Ive noticed lots of people buying happyland stuff but I wasnt sure what age a child really gets into it. My lo had lots of toys last Christmas which she didnt start playing with till several months later. My mum has asked for ideas and I was looking at the happyland farm. She is getting into her animal noises and my in laws live on a farm.
I dont want my mum to get it if shes not going to play with it properly until several mths later when she might as well ahve it as a birthday present.
All ideas welcome. xxx

My lo is 21 months, and I think only within the last 6 weeks has he begun to really play with his happyland. We have the funfair, which is the best of the range for lo I think, as he likes everything in the set. The carousel, swing and ride all move, the carousel plays two tunes, there are 4 little people, and a little train which goes will all of the range.
I have asked Father Christmas for the happyland pre-school for lo, as there are some lovely parts to that set including a little slide which I think lo would love.
I wouldn't say that 18 months is too young. I think happyland is something that grows with a child if you know what I mean. They play differently with it as they get older. Hopefully she will get lots of play value out of it. I think the farm is lovely too, (excellent noises!) but I personally prefer the school and funfair (don't mean to offend, sorry) for my lo. When is your lo's birthday? x

Ive only had a look at a few that elc have on offer. Its nice to hear others reviews too. I will go and check them out. I was thinkingtoo that its something that will grow with her.
She will be nearly 20mths at Christmas thinking about it so I think I will add it to her Christmas list!
I birthday isnt until may but last Christmas she had things suitable for 12mths like the building bricks and shpe sorter. Its only recently that she has made use of the,

I know what you mean. The happyland funfair was something lo had for Christmas last year and as I said, he's only started to play with that within the last 6 weeks. He hasn't played with any of his puzzles that he had last Christmas (wooden peg ones, and match the head to the body of the animal 2 piece jigsaw type things) yet. And he is only now starting to play with his wooden shape sorter, but I have to tell him which hole to put which shape through and then he does it. All of those were 12+ months.
He has however played lots with the workbench, rocket and garage that he had. Its hard to know what will be a hit and what will take a while to grow into!
And then again, lo has a hoover, iron, shopping trolley and that kind of thing from ELC and they all say 3+ and he has played with it loads and loads!

I think it depends very much on the child. My son happily played with my godchildrens HappyLand toys when we all went on holiday together & he was only about 10 months.

I have bought Lea the happyland zoo as she is 18 months but will be 20 months at xmas and i know she loves things like that.
Like mummy123 said, it really does depend on the child, but i thought id risk it just because it is so popular and have heard great reviews xx

I'd say happyland has a great age range. Cole got the farm for his first birthday and him and my friends son (2 1/2 then) went straight for playing with it. Since then my goddaugther (then 7 months) showed interest in it (she mostly liked to chew them lol). Cole has regularly played with the happyland since then - although he prefers the people and cars to the buildings at the moment - apart from the cottage because I think he can relate to that quite well as it has familiar things in it. We even spent half an hour one afternoon while he took all his happyland figures to teh cottage toilet for a wee and a bath lol.
Cole is 22 months now and plays with everything, my friends 3 are now 16 months, 3 and 5 and play with the happyland too - my goddaugther (the 16 month old) got loads for her first birthday and loves it and plays with it every day and apparently grumps if its not got out.
Good to hear lo's of similar age are playing with the funfair - I'd thought it was too old for cole when I was last buying stuff but I've suggested it to the inlaws to buy so hoping they'll get him that or the zoo.
Some of the things we hav ethat are 12month + age range he's lost interest in already and some he still struggles with. I think of all his toys the shape sorters nad happyland and cars are the favourite.

Think the happy land range is from 12 months. I know my friends little boy had loads of it for his first birthday last year and he spent ages playing with it. If Zacky ever chooses to look at the range in the shop then i would start getting pieces for him but til then.......

freya si 19.5 months and lives happy land, it is one of the few things that her and her older sister who is nearly 5 will happily paly together. we have quite a few bits from phoebe a mixture of happy land a nd little people which all live together and it is one of her favorite toys at themo, we have got her the caravan for christmas and i know that sh e will love that.
so i think that 18 months is about the right age for them to start getting into them. obviously their attention span isnt as long and the games wont be as involved as they would be with an older child but they still enjoy it. x
