Sorry to rant, I don't mean to, I'm just extra specially hormonal today. And for better or worse I would love a vindaloo curry so hot my heart burn would blast me out of the earth's orbit. So I am restraining my self, I am convinced this baby will come out with a gaviscon logo if I take anymore, and I still have so many more weeks left. lol.

hehe i was just imagining a little baby dancing around a giant gaviscon bottle! LOL!

I too am worried about the caffine thing as I live on tea, I can't get through the day without tea, but the bucket load. I have tried decaff and it is awful, so I have limited myself to 2-3 cups a day, but then also have coke and also have chocolate. I know I am over my limit, but some days I have none and somedays I have a little bit over so I am just trying not to worry too much. I think the stress and worry about what we can and can't do will effect baby more than a little bit too much caffine one day.

Relax and enjoy your coke and your pregnancy. xxx

Hedgie - your post wasn't a rant at all, it's exactly what i need to hear - personal experience.

hmm.. appletise, haven't drank that in years might give it a go, i know ill still prefer coke over it or anything else, but would be nice to have another option at the pub, as i too dont like pub lemonade, j20 etc..x

appetiser and ginger beer are good alternatives... I find once you stop drinking coke as much the craving goes away for a bit. Have you tried cherry, apple and raspberry high juice? I am a coke addict and hate, hate, hate sweetener and doesn't have any in it. Also a can a day is unlikely to hurt, theres not that much caffeine in a can. xx

Saw this on the front page and had to come take a look Happy

When I was pregnant 2 years ago I was drinking about 2-3 cans of diet coke a day - like you its the only thing I really like to drink. I read on babycentre I think it was details of limits on caffeine and it said no more than 8 cans of coke a day so I figured 2-3 cans would be fine.

My son was born 6 days early weighing 7lb5 and my son was fine when born. Well he had jaundice but that was caused by him getting the -ve from my blood and the O from my husbands so nothing to do with the coke there.

My first pregnancy was a mmc and I'd cut right down the coke there to 1 can a day and that didn't help so when I was pregnant with my son I figured sod it ..knocking off the coke didn't make a difference so I wasn't going ot give up entirely.

Definately agree that the caffeine free stuff is horrid..I accidently picked up some caffeine free coke at work (poor work collegue was drinking mine and hyper off the caffeine as she's not used to it lol) and it took me ages to figure out why it tasted funny.

Mmmm, ginger beer, I am a recent convert - is the only non-alcoholic drink with a 'kick' to it so far more exciting than other pub drinks! And I love Appletise too.
I think one can of coke a day should be fine - and personally I would stick to the full sugar stuff - at least you know where you are with sugar where as aspartame has question marks over it. Just as long as you watch your sugar intake the rest of the day and perhaps try and have some protein around the same time as the coke to slow down the release of it into your blood it should be fine.
My friend didn't touch a single drop of caffeine - not even decaff tea as it has a trace in it - or alcohol in her pregnancy and had a full term baby of only 5lb. I'm not saying we should all go mad on booze on coffee for a second but I think as long as you stick well within the recommended limits then what is the problem?

i dont drink caffine, so cant advice on that but the aspartame mention caught my eye. I stopped drinking coffee a couple of years ago and very quickly lost the taste for it. then, soon after, even the smell was awful. when i was ttcing i swapped tea for tick tock naturally caffine free tea. but when i got pg i went off that. i dont drink coke anyway as it always gives me terribly stomach pains. i did however, drink a lot of hot vimto - sugar free - before realising about aspartame. now i look at the ingerdients of every drink i buy and almost all sugar free drinks have aspartame in them, which has been linked to miscarriage in some research and also in another irratic cycles, and with pcos i thought it cant dio any harm to not touch it! however, i had to see a dietitian at the start of this pregnancy for low bmi and asked about aspartame and she said other sweeteners were much worse, suc...? cant remember which she mentioned. she also said the research used huge amounts of aspartame and in normal quantities it shouldnt be harmful. at the time i was really suffering with all day sickness (!) and fanta orange was the only thing that helped, which has aspartame in it, but the dietitian said one glass a day would be fine.

how many cans of coke do you drink a day?

OMG Ilovecupcakes I could have written your post!! lol!! Coke is basically all I drank before I got preggers - bad I know but I don't like many drinks. When I was preggers with ds I only had one caffine drink a day - usually one can of coke or a cup of tea. I went off coffee completely - the smell made me puke! But when I was having very sicky days coke made me puke too so I actually went off it so I didn't worry as much. I drank fizzy water and apple juice.
With this pregnacy I seem to have gone off all drinks! I dunno wat to have Frown I have one can of coke - usually with my evening meal. (My dh also questions how much I am drinking cos he knows I would have had 3/4 glasses before pregnacy but I have cut down to one) ........but apple juice, water, tea, orange juice etc make me feel sick - any drink does at the mo Frown not sure what to drink?? I am having to force water down cos I will get dyhrated at this rate (especially as I am being sick).
A can of coke a day feels like a treat and I think that as that amount is well below guidelines it is ok. altho I must say some days it has made me feel bad too!

Right, don't shoot me anyone...

When I fell pregnant I checked everything, an was advised that 400mg a day of caffeine was the max. Now they've changed it to 200mg, which means I've spent most of my pregnancy drinking 2/3 cups of tea too many.

It's such a balancing act. On one day I might have more than I should. the next I'd have hardly any.

I agree that old advice doesn't necessarily mean new advice isn't valid just because lots of babies were born fine, but I do think (and here's where I'll be shot) that advice is taking on crazy proportions. When I got pregnant, I was told by every health professional I saw to cut out peanuts completely due to my asthma and eczema and hubby's cat allergy. It's a good job I went home and researched it/came on here and asked the ladies about it. It seems there's never been any medical basis for this 'advice' and it has, since August this year, been withdrawn. That's not to say the advice about caffiene is rubbish, but you can't beat yourself up over coke! If you were going overboard, fair enough, but you're not. Just be careful hon, only you can decide how much to allow yourself.

Hello girls

I'm GCing as saw this on the first page...

Just wanted to say that for the first few weeks (until I was about 8 weeks), I drank nothing but coke! I was very sick and this was all I could keep down. Then I went off it from 8 - 20 weeks as couldn't keep anything down and was in hospital. After 20 weeks, I still drank loads! It was one of the only things that took the nausea feelings away on my better days.. I was worried about it, but figured all the drugs I was having were worse!

Daisy-Mae is now 7 months old and perfect.

I think sometimes you have to give yourself a break and just try to live your life whilst you are pregnant (obviously without harming your babe)..

Good luck to all of you..

C xx
