Subject : Constant heartburn!

For the past weeks I have been getting heartburn every day and several times a day. It doesnt make a difference what I eat - I get it after every meal. I'm taking Gaviscon liquid every day but I dont think its helping that much as I am still getting it! Does anyone have any advice or other remedies that work. I asked my midwife but she didnt suggest anything either and said that it will probably get worse!! Please help x x Sad

Sorry i have it to, i take Gaviscon Advance from the doctor. They also suggest a milky drink before bed, but apart from this i don't know of any other remedies!

I'm the same, I find munching on a Rennie when I feel it starting to kick helps - I only take 1 and only when I need it, so I'm usually only taking 2 or 3 a day. I work on the basis they will give bubs extra calcium!

if u go to ur GP they can prescribe u a huge bottle of gaviscon (or similar if this isn't working) free if u have ur maternity exemption certifctae, if u haven't yet ask ur mw how to apply for one, she'll give u a form to send off.

I have been getting it too, and have found that Tesco do their own 'fruit' flavoured tablets for heartburn, indigestion and trapped wind. They are about £1.50 for 48 tablets and they work much better than gaviscon or anything else i have tried. Might be worth giving them a go? I have also increased the amount of milk i drink throughout the day and this has helped lots too x

Get your doc to prescribe you some ranitidine, they are fantastic! You can buy them from boots or tesco too. I hate gaviscon and when I managed to keep it down it didn't last very long. I find these tabs work for at least 12 hours, I swear by them! xx

A glass of milk always helps although I hate the stuff so try to avoid. Other things I that I've found have helped, flavoured ice pops, vanilla ice cream and fruit flavoured renees. Hope you find something that works for you xx

I have struggled with heartburn throughout...some days are better than others.
1) I have stocks in Rennie, it works best for me
2) i drink milk...a lot
3) i drink water...a lot
4) i sleep propped up with pillows
5) i curse and complain and moan about it.

Some of those things help some days nothing makesa difference. It doesn't matter what i eat, because it really isn't like indigestion.

I am just hopeful that as soon as this baby comes, it will go.

haha michelle07 @ kissing your doctor!

I havent tried the Ranitidine myself but is it just the strength of Zantac they prescribe????

I have tried gaviscon and other such medicines to no avail and its sooooooooooooo bad that I wake up atleast 5 times a night because each time I turn acid burns up into my gullet (ewww)

Heres what I find helps:

1. Munching lots and lots of ice cubes..store bought as you just cant make them fast enough for me hahaha

2. Staying away from hot drinks...they just BURN

3. Sleeping without any pillows as I find lying at an angle and moving can sometimes cause more reflux, whereas if I am completley vertical, its more even...if that makes sense

4. Holding my breath when I bend down or turn over in bed...how strange but it deffo works!!

5: Quick breaths when the reflux starts can sometimes help get over the initial burning sensation.

6. 49p for 10 fruit lollies at tesco. Life.Savers.. (I went to tesco today to get my two packs and nearly died when I thought they had ran out...I bent over to make sure and dove into the fridge, ass in the air, prying the last two packs from the back of the fridge lol

I hope that helps darlin, its honestly THE worst!!!

Princess87 the tabs I have been prescribed are 150mg, so twice the amount of the ones you can buy over the counter, they rock! Nothing else I have tried (and that's pretty much everything!) have worked this well. Like Michelle says one tab and no heartburn all day, yay! xx
