Subject : My update.xx
Hi all
Met with the consultant today after the growth scan last week and she confirmed i'm still measuring 3 weeks ahead today. She didn't seem too worried, she said a healthy baby is better than a scrawny one (says she who doesn't have to give birth!)
They want to do a glucose tolerance test next Wednesday, I have to arrive at hospital at 8.30 nil by mouth, have blood taken, drink a sugary drink, wait 2 hours at the hospital, have more blood taken, then go for lunch then have more blood taken again!
Have another scan W/c23rd Nov (most probably the Friday) to check growth then I meet with consultant on 1st December when i'll be 37 weeks and if baby is still ahead then will be taken in for induction either later that week or the following. she didn't want to make any decisions in case baby decides to make other plans in between now and then and when I meet with her i'll be considered term so they can literally make day by day decisions. I'm really pleased as the closer to 37 weeks we get the healthy baby will be.
We tried to get her to tell us if we can still go midwife led rather than consultant led but she avoided the question and said we will discuss on 1st Dec, if baby hasn't made an appearance by then but if it does then it will be smaller. She did say that although i'm measuring ahead and baby looks big, it doesn't look huge which is a relief. Should be able to avoid a csection but they may just help nature along a couple of weeks earlier if needs be.
Still no firm decisions but think it's just playing it by ear to see what baby has in store over the next 3 weeks but i'm now at the stage where I just think, so what! Baby will be here when he's ready and everything they are doing is for mine and his safety so i'm going to enjoy my maternity leave!
Hope your all ok.
Em

Seems like good news all round. Glad it all seemed to go well, and baby is still head down etc, hope the gtt goes well to. We all have different sized babies for our bodies, so what will be will be i guess :)
Omg can't believe that you could be a mum at 37/38 weeks, i'm a little jealous!!!! lol

So pleased that you had a good experience with the consultant and you are happy with the outcome. Good luck with the GTT test on Wednesday, I had one a few weeks ago and it's nothing to worry about. Just remember not to eat from 9pm the night before or in the 2 hour wait between getting your bloods taken.
I'm in a similar situation, am seeing the consultant in the next few days and I hope he says the same thing to me. Now that the time is getting closer, I'm getting very eager to meet baby and if that means induction at 37 weeks then I'll be very happy.
Take care xx

Well baby may be measuring ahead but as said doesn't mean going to be huge. Will just have to relax and wait and see I had glucose test with first child xjx

Just wondering Emma, did your DH go with you to the consultant appointment? Was it good that he did or didn't attend?
Not sure if it's worth getting mine to take time off work or not and would appreciate your advice xx

Hi hon
Yeah mine come with me to see the consultant, Its hard to know whether its worthwhile isn't it as you never quite know what they are going to say.
Personally i'm glad he did as when they started speaking about further scans in a few weeks and what will happen at the 37 week one, he asked a couple of questions I forgot like if we can go midwife led. He did also come to the growth scan as again we didn't know what to expect but we have decided there is no need for him to attend the next one as you can't see very much and you don't get told anything, we only get a scan report to give to our midwife which he can read when he gets home as I want him at the next consultant appt.
I would also have said to him to not bother comin gto the GTT, my only concern was driving after the 3 blood tests (they are doing my 34 week ones on the same day too) but luckily he already had the day holiday booked so will be for moral support.
Personally I think it would be good for him to come to the consultant ones with you, especially as decisions start being made as we are further on but any midwife appts or growth scans my DH is not going to come too. He would love to but his company have given him a promotion so we really don't want to be seen to take the mickey.
Hope that helps hon

That really does help, thanks so much. I am finding it very difficult to know when he should be there and when he doesn't need to be. I was referred to a consultant right at the beginning (due to an abnormal smear), so he took the day off. We got there, they tested my urine sample, said I didn't need to be under consultant care and we left, weren't in there 5 minutes, a total waste of time.
He's happy to come along to all appointments but like you we don't want to be taking the mickey, he wants to save his time off for when baby arrives.
My DH didn't come to the GTT as I had one at 24 weeks so knew what to expect. I think all hospitals do things differently as I was allowed out for the 2 hour break and just had to return at a set time. I had a lovely little wonder around the shops in town but it was so hard walking past all the bakeries, which were smelling so divine - it took lots of willpower!
He did come with me to the growth scan and I'm pleased he did, unlike you though we got told loads by the sonographer and I don't think I'd have taken it all in myself. For that reason, I think I'll be asking him to come along to any future ones we have, although I suppose that depends on how many it is, again wouldn't want to be taking advantage.
Thanks again Emma, you've really put my mind at rest xx
