Subject : stomach bugs
Some advice on how to deal with them please, it's the first one he has had, it's more out the bottom end now. Already had to wash the floor once today! Lol.
Do I still give him milk to drink or just water? He'ls not interested in food at all.

what ever he can keep inside him hon really. Milk might not be too great on his belly so may come straight out other end, you might be better sticking to water!
Don't worry about him not eating, it won't do him any harm but he must get fluids inside as the biggest risk is dehydration! Check his nappies to make sure they are wet and he is peeing, if he has two nappies in a row that are completley dry then he's dehydrated.
You can buy diarolalyte from the chemist which babies can take (5mls ever 5/10 mins) which will help replace what he's missing and help rehydrate.
If you're unsure then don't hesitate taking him to docs/ A&E. my ds had a sickness bug at 18months and ended up in hospital for 4 days on a drip to keep him hydrated, but he was sick as well as other end.
Hope little man is better soon xx

I would offer him whatever he is willing to drink, and often. In a bottle or sippy cup, whatever he finds easier. I found that lo would not drink the dioralyte (sp?) (it does taste a bit odd) and so when he had the norovirus at 18 weeks, I gave him whatever he was willing to have.
Hope lo is a bit better soon. Its awful when they're not well.

re the diarolalyte (however you spell it!!) the hospital put a tiny amount of orange squash in it for Shea so it tasted nicer and he took it no problem, but he was a bit older and I was okay with him having juice then

thanks for the tip - unfortunately, its only ever a matter of time before he gets another stomach bug! we've been really lucky so far, and Daniel has only had the one, but nothing like as bad as Shea.

god Rhian I never wish to go through that ever again!! He was projectile vomiting with diahorrea constantly and the hospital wouldn't even let me keep a nappy on him as they wanted to see how much he was peeing, so I was running around the hospital room with 2 buckets trying to catch everything!! which I obviously wasn't 100% successful with, so when shea did miss the bucket I was offered a mop and bucket by the ward sister and was asked to clear it up myself so they didn't catch anything!!!!
No wonder our hospitals are in the state they are when the parents ahve to do the cleaning!

It seems to have stopped at the moment, he's still playing and running around so not too bad at the moment.
Sorry to hear about shea!
Luckly I'm on holiday this week so don't have to take time off. This was meant to be my relaxing day, while he was at nursery oh well.

Its so awful when they're not well. I find it really upsetting, even when I know its a standard bug which will clear in 24 hours. Its so hard to see them distressed as they just don't understand what is happening to them. Bless.
Very glad to hear that your little boy is a bit perkier mcrvamp. Hopefully it will continue this way and he'll have a lovely nap to try and recharge and you can have some of your time off to yourself.
Claire, That is absolutely shocking! Poor Shea. It reminds me of the maternity ward I was in after having Daniel. I went to have a shower one morning and the whole cubicle was covered with blood and clots and there was just loads of it on the shower tray. I went to get a nurse so that she could arrange for it to be dealt with and she told me that if I wanted a shower, I should have brought some flip flops with me as 'it is alwatys like this in a maternity ward'!
I agree - its no wonder there are so many germs and infections in hospitals.

ooops!! bless him xx
I did get a refund the other week as I got a phone call about mid morning asking me to collect him as one of the nursery nurses had a sickness bug and had been sick on the floor, so as a precaution they shut the nursery for a deep clean, but even tho I got a refund I still lost half a days pay as had to look after him.
we can book 4 weeks off a year without paying but it doesn't work for sickness

my lo is 22 months and he had his first sickness bug a couple of weeks ago, luckily he still wears a nappy so that made things a lot easier, i just went through a pack of nappies in 3 days! we have laminate so it was pretty easy to just follow him around with the mop. stomach bugs are a nightmare at this age, my older 2 can both make the toilet and spend the day in bed, but how do you get a toddler to stay still?
i was advised by doc to not give him milk or any dairy as stomach bug bacteria thrive on these products and it encourages them to hang around longer. i was told water and juice were fine, and not to be too concerned with food until he asks for some, and then only make it light.
