Subject : WTF? Doc told me to wait another FOUR MONTHS before ttc!
Just can't believe it. Let me start from the beginning.
After the erpc at the end of September I had a bleed for about a week. A couple of days after the bleed hubby and I had sex. That caused me to have an awful bout of cystitis that lasted for about 7 days. I had blood in my urine and had to have a course of antibiotics.
My next af finished this Saturday, and on Saturday evening hubby and I had sex. Then yesterday I got cystitis again. I started drinking those special Caneston drinks and taking paracetamol, and this morning it had settled down. However just to be on the safe side I went to see the doctor this evening, mainly because this cystitis after af/sex is a new development since the erpc.
Anyway the doctor did a pee test which showed that I don't have cystitis. So he said there was no point prescribing me anything as I clearly wasn't ill.
Then I asked about ttc again, and the doctor told me that I should wait for another 4 months before starting to try again. I asked why and he gave me various vague reasons, partly he said to give my body a "rest" and partly because he said that I should wait to see whether this cystitis after af thing is a recurring problem.
I just don't get him. He told me I don't have cystitis.....in fact he kind of waved it off as just "tenderness" after having sex, and yet he also told me to wait 4 months before ttc just in case I DO have it! Plus when I pushed him on the time scale for ttc he was really vague too - first it was wait for 4 months, then wait for 2, then "there is no time frame really" ????!!!!!
What do you girls think? We are due to start ttc again after my next af (ov should be the start of December), so we would have waited 2 months. I am so confused - what is he on about? Does he have a point or is he just being a c0ck?
I just don't know what to think now - I so want to start again, why is he telling me to wait?
(Also posted in pregnancy after mc/ectopic, to see whether anyone there has any experience of this)

sounds to me that he doesn't have much of a clue if I'm honest. He should at least be able to give you a solid reason for giving you a timescale to work to, what you should be looking out for (in terms of cystitis) in the mean time etc etc. The level of care / bed side manner can vary so much btn doctors, if it were me, I'd be thinking about going to see a doctor who's been useful in the past or perhaps try and see a woman doctor who at least should have some idea of what you're going through. Four months is a long time when you want and feel ready to try.

i agree, sounds like a 'knob' cystitus isn't really something life threatening! have you looked up to see how it could affect an un born baby? i doubt it. what happens if u did get it during pg? you'd just have to put up with it and 'flush' it through!!!! x

I'm g/c from ttc after bereavement and Yes, he sounds like a d!ck. I spoke to 3 midwifes and every one of them said it was up to me when i start trying again and that my body was ready straight away. So go for it and good luck x

Hi luvvie - your dr does sound like a bit of a prat. Is there another GP in your surgery that you could see for a 2nd opinion? My friend's sister had an ectopic pg 2 years ago, she was told to wait for 3 months, but 1 month post surgery (she lost her tube) she got pregnant and now has her 3rd child, a beautiful girl. I really would try and speak to someone who actually knows what they are talking about.

After my ectopic i was told to wait snything from 3 to 6 months by various dr's! Real wishy washy reasons in the 6 month camp! About emotional healing. I'm bloody 31 I know when I'm ready and I know I'd be emotionally disturbed if I had to wait 6 months!
Spoke to consultant and she said 4 months but that's due to drugs I was given. Think I'll ov end of January, which is about 3 and a half so we're starting then. I love how they think if happens 1st month!
I think your dr was talking balls! I was told when they thought I had mc it was 1 period then go but that was for dating reasons only x x x

Thanks so much for the replies girls I really appreciate it.
Hubby came home about 5 minutes after I posted so I was in a bit of a state. I told him what the doc said about waiting four months and hubby told me to ignore him as he was clearly talking out of his ****. Then lovely hubby said " I don't care what he said we are starting again in December come hell or high water!" That really cheered me up.
I got a letter through from the hospital today for a follow up appointment, so I will ask them what they think when I see them.
All in all I think he was just a knob. It's the first time I have seen him - won't be going to him again! He was very flippant about the whole thing and didn't even try to put my mind at rest about trying again. He also told me that I should take "polic acid". Says it all really!
