Subject : Freaky- needed to ask a question re PCOS and there is a room
Hi
I'm new to this but have been posting in the TTC after a miscarriage room. I had a miscarriage in August and 4 weeks later got a call from the hospital telling me to do a pg test as I could still have an ectopic pg. Basically the "products of conception" (what a nice name) that they analysed was effectively the placenta and they couldn't find the baby so thought it could still be attached to a tube. Anyway to cut a long story short it wasn't and I had another scan etc. I just got a letter from my gynae saying that while they were scanning me they noted my ovaries were "bulky" consistent with my previous diagnosis of PCOS. The thing is I thought PCOS was cured by pregnancy?
I have 2 children (21 months apart). The first was hard to conceive- the second only took 6 months as I had been "cured" by the first pregnancy. My cycles between the 2 and then following the second were regular for the first time until I conceived the third. I miscarried this little one but got my next period 31 days later to the day (which is the length of my new cycles). I am now 2 days late but have done 3 pg tests and they are negative. Could this mean that my cycles are lengthening again and I'll stop ovulating like before?
Has anyone else had experience of getting PCOS back after pregnancy? I have noticed my hair growth is back and that I'm putting on weight again rapidly which is consistent with my previous symptoms.
Thanks for reading! Hope someone knows the answer!

Hi
PCOS can re-occur at any time I was diagnosed at 16 and eventually fell pg at 29, had three pgs (one mc) in quick succession but now have all symptoms back and haven't seen a period for 6 mths!
You could always ask for a detailed scan and talk about options to improve conception chances
Good luck x

Hmmm just as I thought- it has obviously come back. I wonder if my mc in August was caused by it?
I seriously thought pregnancy cured it for good- it seems I was wrong!
Thanks for your response x

Hi Hun
My understanding from what I have read is that there is no 'cure' as such.
Many people are under the common misconception that pregnancy is a cure but it's not - our balance of hormones when pregnant are the same as somebody without PCOS but the rebalance can come back after pregnancy - just some people are lucky and it never returns!
Unfortunately, they don't really understand a lot about PCOS - what causes it, cures etc - They haven't even got to the stage where they will licence drugs that are proven to help!
Don't dispair though - there's lots of help if you have got it - half the battle is getting all the tests, the full diagnosis and then the drugs!
x

hi girls, loving this new forum!!! My LO is 11 months old n we decided to start TTC again in june (when she was 7 months) as i've always wanted them close 2gether!! fell preg completely unexpectidly (sp?) with Brooke as we just presumed that as my AF was so irregular that nothing would happen, anyway, it did n now we have her. my cycles were pretty regular 4 th 1st 6 months after she was born and as luck would have it i've not seen or heard a whisper from AF since 30th may (as soon as we decided to start TTC again)!!! She's a stubborn witch that AF lol!! Think its safe to say my PCOS is back with avengance xx
