Subject : terrible D & C---?? question..thanks

i just had a d& c today after a discoverd blighted ovum yesterday---anyhows i was given a pessary before the d&C (at 12pm)and i was in agony after it--even morphine didnt help--it was severe labour contractions...was awful---was on a fast from 10pm last nite til i had the operation procedure at 6pm today----was weak as water--i was screamin with pain...was in bad pain from 12pm to operation procedure at 6pm

anyhows my brother who is a doctor said that that was completely cruel to give me the pessary before the D+C and that this wasnt normally done--is he right?? i feel a bit mistreated now??? maybe it is safe to give a pessary so that the cervix isnt damaged??is it?any help appreciated..thanks..x

I'm sorry for what you've been through hun but it sounds all too familiar, I fasted for 12 hours before my op and they gave me the pessary and promised to leave me only an hour. 2 hours later and the extremely painful contractions were literally taking my breath away - eventually got to theatre 2 1/2 hours after being given the pessary.

Hoping you're soon feeling better

x

The waiting is awful isn't it? We were left to wait all day in the EPU til a bed became available for me. They'd promised I could go home the same day but it ended up being so late when I was taken to theatre that they kept me in over night grrrr.

Anyway! That was in October 2007 and we started TTC again almost straight away. Sadly that wasn't to be either - I had an ectopic in March 2008 and after a failed methotrexate job I lost my right tube. Once again it was back to TTC - which we couldn't do for 3 months cos of the jab.

We started trying again as soon as we could but where getting nowhere so I went for tests to find out I wasn't OV'ing. Am now 39 weeks pregnant (3rd time lucky!) and we conceived on my 2nd month of taking Clomid.

All I'll say is take your time to recover from what you've been through - take time out to grieve and as my doctor said - don't underestimate the power of walking and chocolate!!

Wishing you all the best hun - I think I'm proof that there's hope

Big hugs

Welsh xx

Brillbride I'm sorry you've had such a horrible experience - I've no help or advice to give on the D&C front but really hope you feel better soon xx

Welshka your story is so inspiring - I'm glad you've got your happy ending. I 've had 2 early MC's and have just had a BFP so am hoping its 3rd time lucky for me too.
