Subject : Feeling a bit dim- In what way are we most fertile after MC?

Hi everyone,

I've heard everyone say that we're more fertile after a MC but i'm very confused as to why.
Basically I have two main questions and realise it's wishful thinking and probably nothing more! Lol!

1. Can sperm survive any longer? - Hubby has been away so we only BD once which was 7 days before OV.
2. Is af still due 14 days after ov, after miscarriage?

I mc last month and haven't had my first af yet but i've been testing with ov sticks and I ov'd just 2 days after I was due to so was really pleased as it seems my body is getting back to normal.

So as I ov'd 2 days later, would af be due 2 days later too? Because af should be due today but if I add on the extra two days it would be Friday.

I hope someone can make sense of this and can help!!

Thank you,

Amy xx

HI Amy

I'm not really sure whether or not it is true that you are more fertile after a mc, but I can tell you what happened to me:

I had an erpc on the Monday, then a little bit of bleeding for a day, which stopped, then on the Friday I got my af. Seven days after the bleed stopped I ov'd. I am now have my af again, which came 29 days after last af, which is normal for me. I know lots of other ladies though that have had irregular cycles - I think it just depends on what your body decides to do!

So had we been trying immediately after the erpc there was the chance of us conceiving straight away. I think my story is quite typical of what happens ov-wise after a mc, so perhaps that is why people say you are more fertile immediately after a mc.

I don't think sperm live longer in your body after the mc though - I think they live up to 5 days.

Soz, no idea whether that is helpful or not - I hope so!

Hi Amy, AF will always be due 14 days ish after OV as the luteal phase is always the same, as for the sperm surviving longer this doesn't change at all. xx

Thank you ladies,
That has definately helped.

I just did an ov test and have a very very faint line.
I have no pg tests but heard that ov tests can detect HCG?

Do you know if this means anything? I'm going shopping on Friday so i'll buy some pg tests if af hasn't arrive by then.

I'm pretty sure it's impossible but can't help myself! Lol! xx
