Subject : Posterior Position
Hi Everyone
I found out yesterday that my baby is in the posterior position (back to back) i have read that it means labour can be longer and more painful as the baby tries to turn, Has anyone already been through labour with their baby in this position and did your labour start naturally?
Im worried of going overdue because the head might not be putting enough pressure on the cervix? That might be me worrying uncecessarily though!
Thanks

my youngest was posterior but he was also oblique, and he was like this throughout the whole of my pregnancy, i had no trouble going into labour it was just getting the baby out that was the problem, my body was trying to push him out but he was in the wrong position, as a result of i had to have a section due to fetal distress, but they stated that it was the oblique bit that was the cause for this. my friends little girl was also posterior but she never turned and was still delivered normally just face up.

My little one was back to back, she turned round after she was threatened with a possible c section! Not sure if it hurt more or not as I have nothing to compare it to.

They tell you to spend as much time as possible on you hands and knees or sitting the "wrong" way round on a dinning chair to incourage the baby to turn round.

Michelle is right about the on all fours bit.
My second was back to back, labour was longer than my 1st, but established labour was quicker. With my second my waters broke(un like my 1st) but instead of breaking completely they leaked all day bcoz the head wasn't sitting right. I gave birth laying on my side (which i'd never heard of or considered) and it was wonderfully comfortable, well as much as labour can be.

My baby was back to back and the midwife told me to crawl on my hands and knees, don't slouch on the sofa, sit on a proper chair instead, don't lie on my back in bed lie on my left hand side as much as possible.
Hope this helps, Lu 38+2
