Subject : Are you from a large family yourself?

Just being nosey really! I am about to start TTC no. 3, my family all think i'm mad, and my argument with them at the moment is that I came rom a 'large' family, i enjoyed my childhood and teenage years and I would like that for my children.
I am the eldest of four, my mum is one of 8 and my dad is one of five, I have in the region of 45 cousins, so, yes, my aunts and uncles like to breed, too! :D
Both mum and dad are one of a large family as both their mothers were only children, and they always said they were very lonely and didn't really feel like they had a childhood as such as they were always in adult company, my grandads were a different matter entirely! my maternal grandad was one of 9, paternal grandad was one of 14!! :o:o
I always felt like I 'belonged' when growing up, if I wasn't getting on with my brothers, I had cousins on hand to turn to, three of us were in the same year at school, with another three in the year above, so we're all quite close.
So, have your childhood circumstances gone some way to dictating how many children you have/would like? Were you a lonely only child, or like me, loved being in the middle of a big cosy, secure family?
I would like at least another 2, if I won the lottery, another 4! Yes I am that mad! Razz

I am one of three,
my mum is one of four,
one uncle has 6 children( 4 girls, 2 boys, three of the girls have babies 2-3 months apart in age!! both boys have 2 children too)
next uncle has two boys
aunt has two children
my sister has one
my dad is one of 2
my grandma is an only child( was a twin but she died in child birth)
Hubby is one of two
bil has two
errrr I think thats it lol

Not sure if its classed as a large family, it is if you add everyone up but individual familys I'd say are regular size lol

When I was 5 we were in the local paper for been on records the largest family.... so yes, I am from a large family!!

I am one of 4! my dad was one of 5, mum one of 3!
My 4 aunts on my dads side have given me 15 cousins and on my mums side her 2 brothers have given me 7 cousins. My brother is not married nor dating at the mo (he is 24) and my 42 year old sis has no kids. My 44 yr old sis has only 2 kids. They all think I am crazy to have 5!!! My extended family is huge but is dwindling as not so many people have HUGE families these days..

I am one of 3, hubby is one of 2 and he doesnt get on with his sister (neither do I LOL! ) I just always wanted a large family I think its so lovely, my 10 year old tells me when she is older she will have 4 children so she can be like me Happy . I dont think 4 is large anyway, there is a boy in my sons year who is one of 11, thats large his mum is like super woman, the children are always spotless, out of the house on time and well mannered, something to be said for mums of larger than average families I think x

I think you are def right there Hayley,
I always try and keep things organised, kids reasonably presentable etc.
While I have no where near 11 children, i think if you make the effort theres no need to slck off and look a mess etc
I am rarley if ever late either, I am sure I just do it to prove to all them critics that not every large family mummy is a failier and chav lol!!

I am the eldest of 5, and dh is one of 8. My mum is one of 11, and truthfully both our mums had the smallest families out of their siblings. lol. My one aunt has 15, and another aunt has 12. So I think it's safe to say we come from large families. It's wonderful, I wouldn't want it any other way.

Wow, so many of us are from big families ourselves!
My family think that i'm mad as I already have one of each and everyone assumes that you should be happy with two if you have a boy and a girl, the reasons that both of my nans kept going was to try and have a girl and then when they did they wanted to try and even it out abit, as I mentioned before my mum was the first girl after 4 boys, she still went on to have another 2 boys and just one more girl, so didn't work like that anyway! My other nan had three boys before my aunty came along, again tried to even it out abit but had another boy, personally I think SHE was mad as she didn't have one baby less than 10 pounds, and no stitches, c-sections, nothing! So if I'd had two boys or two girls everyone would expect me to try for another to get a different colour, it's so frustrating trying to explain that I don't care what sex they are, it's the large family that I want doesn't matter if it was a whole football team of blues or pinks!

I really do not care what colour bump I have, Ive had so many comments on "wouldnt it be nice if you had??etc"
To be perfectly honest, does it really matter??? a baby is a baby and is special however it come out...right??
My MIL has announced three names she wants......yeh right, not only do they not go with my surname but hell I am not naming my kids after flowers or MIL's father ( sorry those who have flower names!)
the dredful women is such a bore, I wish she would just dissapear or at least keep her mouth shut!

he he sorry bit of a rant there!!LOL!

lol babs3+bean, when I was pregnant with dd I had a boys name in mind and I loved it, it was a nice name as the full version and I also liked the shortened version, but MIL slated it (I can't put on here what she said, and I was horrified!) so it made me all the more determined to have it, but fate was she was a girl, second time around when we were discussing names MIL said that she'd seen a name on the rolling credits of a programme that she thought sounded really nice and it could be shortened and still sounded lovely...it was only the bloody name she had slated only 18 months before! I was fuming and that time around the name choice went completely out of the window, purely out of principle!! took heck of a long time to think of one that we did like though!

good for you sticking to what you wanted.
I have tried to do that too and this time hubby and I have our names ready and waiting...no-one knows and wont until baby is born. It really pi**es my mother and in laws off that we wont tell them too but its just not worth the hassel cos last time I started doubting the names we had chosen because of their comments....ggrrrr.

dont you just love family lol!!!!

lol babs3, We didnt tell anyone the names we had chosen for Alice or Isaac becuase I got so fed up with everyone elses opinion with the first 2, when I was having Jacob we decided his name for as soon I the test line went pink (good job he was a boy lol) and mil told everyone how she preferred Jack! she also told everyone if I had a girl I should name her after her mother and call her Jess, yeah well f*ck off, I will call my baby what I want, when Alice was born she never used to call her by her name, she just used to call her "the baby" because she didnt like the name and with Isaac I think I said something along the lines of "we have called him Isaac because its a name I love and if you dont like it tough because thats what hes called" funnily enough eveyone seemed to like it after that Happy

I am the youngest of 3 and my mum and dad only have 1 sibling each but all my grandparents are 1 of 8.
My oh family is absolutely massive he's the eldest son of 4, but his grandmother is 1 of 22! yep 22 and all his aunties and uncles have at least 5 kids each!
Alot of people seem to think tth having alot of children means your a sloppy parent ect, but his great gran was an amazing women and her children wanted for nothing and were always smart, she even brought my oh up for a while. Although i wouldnt dream of having 22 i think she did an amazing job x
