Subject : MIL/MW rant...

Hi ladies,

I have to let off steam...hope you don't mind Evil

I went for my 16 wk check on Friday. I asked the MW when I would start to show and she laughed (great, just what I want, to be made to feel stupid) and kept going on about how early I am in my pregnancy and that I wouldn't show until about 22 weeks plus. And even then it might just look like her spare tyre. Hmph. I was really upset about it when I talked it through with my OH later on as the first 12 weeks or so of this pg were so hard and I felt so anxious, that now that I am in my mid-teens I finally feel that the pg is a bit more established and things are a bit "safer".

We then went to my parents-in-laws yesterday. My MIL asked how my appointment went, so I told her and I then told her that the MW had annoyed me by refering to me as being so "early in my pregnancy". She then spent the next 10 minutes telling me that the MW was right. I mean why, when I have told her I am p*ssed off about something, would she then agree with them?! Even if she did, wouldn't you just humour me!?!! Then, later on my SIL, BIL and niece came round and she laughingly told me SIL "oh, she doesn't like being refered to as early on in her pregnancy". I thought I was going to hit her. I turned round and replied "yes, and yet here we are, still talking about it". I was so annoyed and upset. Could barely speak to her after that.

ARGH!

Also, what the heck is all this touching my tummy about?! I don't have a bump, there's nothing to touch. Although I don't think I will be any happier about people randomly groping me even when I do have a bump....

Sorry for the rant girls, I am just still so annoyed. And what's even more annoying is that it will be put down to me being pregnant and hormonal. Evil

And breathe...

Kristen xx

Aww Kirsten...

Not much to offer but i didnt want to read and run..

My mil is a bit like that and i can take her or leave her to be honest (we're not telling them til about 15/16 weeks at new year all being well and we get that far that is) but i think if it was my mil i may actually have hut her and then blamed it on my hormones before she did lol!

Can you change your midwife? she doesnt sound very nice - even if your not going to show for another 6 or 7 weeks she could have put it better couldnt she?

Im quite chubby to begin with and think i already look 6 monrhs pregnant so i will prob be about 30 weeks befroe i look pregnant rather than fat lol...

I cant wait to get a bump (saw a cool tshirt when i was in new look early - i wasnt looking it was just that the maternity tees were next to the tills and it said 'coming soon' in pink sparkly writing and i want one and also one of those 'im not fat im pregnant; ones too lol)

Can your hubby not talk to her and let her know how patronising she was and how it annoys you as you are trying to relax as much as possible as your pregnancy progresses and shes not helping,...yes its fairly early days but not that early im only 6 weeks thats very early and i think up tp about 13/14 weeks could be classed as quite early still depending on when you get dating scan but you are almost 17 weeks ffs!

(((hugss)))

Hi hun,

I saw my consultatant over the weekend, ( more bleeding and a kidney infection) and while examining me she told me I should get my bump within the next 5/6 weeks. I very nearly dnaced, she said it in front of my boyf and he just sat there grinning his head off, he keeps asking me when its coming, so now he has an idea. But sum ppl just dont show for a while, I didnt with my son till around 7 months. Saw my midwife this morning at my 16 week check and she said I am small cos I have such low body fat, which yeah I guess I do. But I know everythings ok, and I can feel baby wiggling, and I ususally put my hand to my belly when I feel the baby pushing out.

xxx
As for your m/l sum ppl just dont have a clue, your nearly halfway, well done.

Hi Kristen,

Sorry about MW...she should know better and since when has 16 weeks been very early in pregnancy????if youd have been asking her at 6 weeks when you would get your bump I could understand it, by 20 weeks your uterus should be at the height of your belly button, or if your near a book shop go and have a look at pregnancy week by week think its Leslie Regan or something similar, it has pics of how your body will be looking at the different weeks, obviously everyone is different and will depend on your weight at the starting point! and if you are quite a small frame you might take slightly longer to show...

as for MIL she should now better too, and to know that it had upset you and then to agree with the thing that upset you...you jut dont do it! if you dont agree with what people are saying...depending on the situaton you just dont really pass comment, you dont then bring it up later.

Anyway Im rambling again! hope you are doing ok hun, only a few more weeks and you will be half way!!!!

Thanks for the replies girls!

Laura, I laughed so much when you said about hurting her and blaming the hormones!! Love the idea of the t-shirt, saw it in new look today but don't have much of a bump yet (still doing up my skinnys!!) so am resisting at the moment, though there is one with hand prints on saying "hands off the bump" - really like that one!!

Great news about the bump Lola, mine said 22 weeks which is 5 weeks now - roll on christmas for both of us, we can both be christmas puddings!!!

Luc! How are you lovely?? How many weeks now? Can't be long till your scan now? Excited for you honey (and gecko, you two kind of come as a pair!!!)!

Love Kristen xx

hey Kristen,(and lil bump)

Not long till you're half way! I should be 11 weeks this week and have the dating scan booked for Weds, very anxious, but have seen lil bean on a scan last fri following a lil bleed (tmi but not entirely sure of the source of the bleed) and it had a strong HB and was measuring in line with my dates. but dont think you ever stop worrying! think I may have to have another private scan in a few wks time to keep me going, all being well...I feel like Im showing already! only because I get so much water retention that I get so bloated by the evening!symptoms seem to come and go, exhausted, peeing all through the night, and the sickness went away for a little bit but still get it if Im not eating small amounts through the day. also boob still large and firm but nipples dont seem darker...maybe Ive been staring at them too much every day to notice the difference!!!

how is the doppler going?

hi luc! (and also little bump!)

sounds brilliant hun, so sorry about the bleed - that must have been a huge worry, but great news that you got a scan and all is well. i read on the mc ass. website that a hearbeat at 8 weeks + gives a 97% chance of all going well!!

i doubt we will ever stop worrying but i def am not as bad as i was, a lot more optimistic that all will be well!! just can't wait to feel some movement now!!

symptoms sound great to me hun, although mine did tail off at around 11-12 weeks so don't worry too much if they do disappear. my nipples are only really getting darker now - only seemed to get bigger through first tri!!!

doppler is great - we heard bean first ar 14+1 and i love it. use it about once a week as i don't want to expose bean to it too much, although everything i've read says it will cause no damage. have you thought about one? there's definite pros and cons. i would be worried if i couldn't find it but i am a lot more confident and find it easier now since bean is a lot bigger (5"!!!) and higher up...

i'm trying to hide my mini-bump until after my 20 week scan from the kids at school, should manage, although they miss nothing!!!!

let me know how you get on on weds honey, i am sure all will be perfect, can't wait to see pics!!!

Hi Kirsten,
Grr... You're nearly halfway through! What a cheek! Glad you've got a mini bump now, that's wonderful news! Are you using an Angel sounds doppler?

I had my 10 week scan on Friday and it was amazing, Tinker is measuring perfectly on my dates and was waving and dancing, although it took a bit of prodding for him to be woken up (convinced it's a boy!). Have you got any feelings to what you're having? Will you be finding out at your 20 week scan?

gecko! hello! wowser, 10+5 today then - brilliant!!! so wonderful about tinker - so so pleased for you honey! that is just fantastic news!!!! Happy

i think maybe a girl....but maybe not!!! who knows, the only reasons i think a girl is firstly because my family always have girls - there are NO boys - but really it doesn't matter about my family does it!? And second I did this daft iridology test and it came out a girl and there are lots of women saying it worked for them....we won't be finding out - i sort of want to but my OH doesn't....we'll see on the day though!!! 2 weeks and 2 days and counting!

the doppler is brilliant - i love it. found beany at 14+1 and listened every week since. hb is getting easier to find now bean is bigger and a bit higher up! are you tempted??!

sorry for being almost half way hun....haha, not really sorry at all!!! but so so pleased that all is going so well for you! have you any pics???

I meant what a cheek about the stupid MW!!! LOL! LOL! LOL!

Here is Tinker at 10+2

Finally got my booking in appointment, it's for Friday at 2pm and my scan date came in the post today, Monday 16th at 2:15pm when I'll be 12+5.

Feeling really ill today, I've had earache for 6 days now and today my throat has started really hurting too so been to the doctors and he thinks I've got glandular fever, grr... Can only take paracetamol! Oh well plenty of bed rest for me.

Yep I am tempted to get a doppler! Where did you get yours? Can't believe your scan is in only 2 weeks! Are you feeling more relaxed now and starting to enjoy being pregnant?

Hey Kristen, excited to hear you have a mini bump! you'll have to keep taking pics by week to keep in your scrapbook! as for doppler all being well at the scan I will order 1 after that, just think it would be nice for some reassurance if and when needed, before you start feeling little 1 moving about, it shouldnt be too long before you start feeling movements! I have used dopplers before so hopefully I havent lost that skill if so will have to get 1 of my midwife friends over to have a listen in for me.
Feeling really anxious about tomorrow, really hope that everything goes ok
Is it just the kids at school that your not telling till 20 weeks! thats a big secret, guess you are nearly there tho...

Gecko - haha, that's so funny about the mw! I totally must have baby brain - I hope!! What a div!!!

I love your scan picture hun, tinker looks so lovely!!! I love that you can see so much when they are only 3 or 4 cm!!! And they grow so quickly now, it's just amazing!!!

So sorry about you being so ill hun, what a pain. I had GF when I was about 17 and it totally wiped me out - have you been signed off for a while? You definately need some feet up, watching JK and on BE time!!!

I got my doppler from Amazon, was about £20 and I bought 3 bottles of gel too, so was about £30. Well worth it!! I'm definately feeling more relaxed about things, seem to get a bit fatter each day and that really helps! As for enjoying it - I definately am. I just have a smile on my face so much of the time and lots of the things that bothered me before just don't really matter. I'm just getting worried about swine flu and am getting a bit OCD about hygiene!!

Hope you're feeling better today?

Hi Luc,

Good plan about taking pics - I will have to start. I have taken 2 or 3 so far but it feels like I am getting a bit fatter everyday now so weekly would be a great plan! I found my doppler fairly easy to find a HB. Sometimes I only hear the HB behind the whoosh of the umbilical cord but it is there. Initially it was really low down but it is a bit higher now!

Please let me know how you get on tomorrow honey, I will be thinking about you and I am sure that all will be fine. I am quite sure it will be an absolutely amazing experience - every one of my scans have just been mind blowingly fantastic, just so special each one of them. :)

I can't wait to feel movement!!! Apparently it's anytime from 16 weeks (though you'll know that!!), but nothing just yet...I don't think! Sometimes I think I feel something but then I think it's just my stomach rumbling!! DOH!!

Not told anyone at work other than my dept and a couple of friends elsewhere in school...someone ask me yesterday if I was pg (when she had only seen me front on!) and I think she must've heard on the ever-busy school grape-vine as there is no way you can tell from that angle just yet!!!

Really good luck tomorrow honey, let me know when you get chance, and please try not to worry - I am sure that your bean will be just fine. Sending you a (((hug))) & lots of PMA,

Love Kristen xx

Hi Kristen,

sounds like you've got the hang of the doppler, and once you know where to look for it and what you are looking for it becomes easier each time and Im sure especially because your frame is smaller, hopefully you will start feeling movements soon! I think they are meant to feel quite fluttery to begin with...

I have posted on my thread 2 but all went well today, nice strong HB and bean was measuring 11+4 so further then mine by a few days, so was happy with that! as my insides are tilted the pics arent very clear but he was waving! and kicking his little legs.

wow I admire you for being able to keep it a secret! I was so excited I almost burst!

Hi Kirsten,
Still feeling terrible, got no hearing at all in my right ear, lost my voice and throat is still sore. I have a drawer full of meds I'd normally take but obviously there's not much you can have in pregnancy!

May check Amazon out and treat myself to a doppler to cheer myself up!

Have you thought of any names yet???

Luc - still so so pleased for you - that's just brilliant news!! A wave is so lovely isn't it - I wish we could have a DVD with the scan on - I would just have it on constantly!!!

Gecko, poor you, so sorry you are so poorly. That's just so so rubbish. I recently had bad toothache (turned out to be an infected gum) and I found that dispersible paracetamol really helped as I could swill it round in my mouth where it was sore - it might help your throat if you gargle with it?

Ladies, I have a scan tomorrow, eeeeek. Just sorted it this afternoon. I just have had this feeling that something isn't right for the last 2 days, woke up with it yesterday, totally out of the blue....so despite hearing the HB on the doppler I am not satisfied. I will be 18+1...worried already but then I was just in the bath and I am SURE I just felt a movement, it wasn't as faint as I thought it would be and at about the right position (according to where we found the HB this morning). So I am feeling a bit better. Either way though, roll on 3.40 tomorrow!

Names....! Hmmmmm, for a girl we both love Chloe. My granny's maiden name was Lily so we are thinking that for a middle name. Though we're not set on anything just yet. Don't think we will be till we meet her/him! Boys we have no names. Alex, my OH, thinks we should call him Alex. Oh dear. Or Sandy (short for Alexander). It gets worse....!!!

Have you thought of any yet???
