Subject : Want to start decorating

We moved into our flat last September, but had a problem with damp in Rhys's bedroom that we only got sorted at the beginning of summer so we haven't done anything with the room since we moved in. Then when we found out I was pregnant we decided to wait a little longer till we knew everything was ok and decorate accordingly. Now we're at the stage where we want to start on the room and the bloody damp has come back grrrrr I'm so annoyed.
We had so much trouble getting it sorted last time and they obviously didn't do the job properly and I just know it's going to be exactly the same again this time. I've just had a letter through saying they are coming to replaster the wall on the 23rd, but how is that going to stop the problem?
Luckily part of my uncles company is carrying out this work so he's going to send someone round to see what they'd reccomend.

It's really getting to me now as I hate having to put Rhys in there as it really smells damp (the whole place does) and it's always so cold. There's noway we could put baby in there as it is. Plus we can't store anything in the room as it just gets ruined.

I just want to get started on having everything ready for when baby is here. Sorry for moaning again having bit of a stressful day thought I'd lost my purse this morning at Asda, but eventually found it under the seat in the car lol.

i hate it when you pay people to do something and they don't do it right!
Hope your unlce makes sure they do a proper job this time...

if you want to start decorating that much you can come and start on what's going to be our nursery... we started emptying and stripping it at the weekend. Unforutnately the people we bought our house from seemed to like woodchip (including on the doors) and foam tiles on the ceiling! We're having to completely gut the room before we can decorate, including taking the floorboards up to sort out their dodgy pipe work...

The joys!

I think it's where water is getting into the brick work, but not draining away but I don't really know properly.

Luckily we aren't having to pay for the work to be done as it's only a housing association property, Going to see what happens next week and if not getting anywhere gonna get my uncle to have a look

Mrs Giddy thtat doesn't sound like much fun. Whys would anyone woodchip a door????

i've asked myself repeatedly that.
The doors were actually nice wooden doors but they had woodchipped the panels and the stuff just wouldn't shift so we had to buy all new doors for upstairs!
they seem to have had some strange decorating ideas these people we bought our house from... should have seen the colour they painted the kitchen in...

I hope they get it right for you this time Becci! I think I'd be ranting much more than you are if they'd already supposedly cleared the problem once! We had a damp problem in our spare room when we moved in, but like moonbeam said we got someone in to treat it with special stuff and it has been ok! Least you have a family member who will be able to advise whether or not they are doing the job properly this time round! Good luck! I also have a nursery that needs starting if you want the job!

Well still getting nowhere with the bloody council!!!! After having to cancel the original app we had because the guy yurned up and told us there was no point in him doing anything as it wouldn't solve the problem all they've done is send me another plastering appointment. And to top it all off, just pulled all the toys out to give the room a good hoover and found the damp is in exactly the same place again that they supposedly sorted out in May so that lasted all of 5 months. I've just told them if noone has got back to me by 4pm with an apprpriate course of action I'll be seeking legal advice. (My Mum works with lots of lawyers and one of them has said they'll write a letter for me and said in her experience it usually gets there bottoms into gear lol.

grr! Annoying council! This is the last thing you should be dealing with when you have a little boy in the house and your pregnant!
I'll keep my fingers crossed for you that you get it sorted!

Becci I kind of feel your pain, DH's nan had really bad subsidance in her bungalow and it took them a YEAR to move her - it got to a point where we were ringing the council every day and then got lawyers involved as we could stick our hands right though the cracks. You could actually see into her bedroom from outside!

If I were you I would definatly get lawyers involved. Damp = black mould which can give you skin problems as well as breathing problems. You have a little boy and a baby on the way - how the hell do they expect you to live like that!!! Grrrrrrr on your behalf

Can't believe it took them that long to sort a problem as serious as that out it's ridiculous.
I've been bleaching his walls down everyweek to keep the mold away this time as that's what they told us to do last time. At the minute Rhys's bed's just plonked in the middle of the room to stop that getting ruined (already on 2nd mattress with it.) All the baby stuff is piled in our room as I know it'll get ruined if left in there and getting to the stage where we can't even keep his clothes in there as they are smelling damp. We've been doing everything they've told us to, like keeping windows open to air room etc but who wants there windows open when it's really windy, cold and throwing it down?
Sorry to keep moaning about it. Just think if I don't get it out in a rant I'll just be sat in tears all day

aw becci this is a nightmare I'm sure it is doing your head in you are supposed to come home to a little piece of the world just for you and have it as your own we haven not a mess for you to content with, I'm for the lawyer option too its a joke. It sounds so unhealthy for the wee man too you'd think with children involved they would make more of an effort :(

Aww Becci poor you what a totally frustrating time you are having, damp is a real pain in the bum, it really should be so simple for them to sort, but it's just typical of some of the terrible shoddy workmen there are out there. I bet that if it was their house, child and pregnant wife they would make sure it was cured first time round. I agree get your mum to get the lawyers to do a letter that will put the fear of god into them.
On a brighter note so glad you found your purse, My hubby thought he has lost his wallet last Christmas Eve of all days so we cancelled all the cards and had no access to any over the Christmas period only to find after he cancelled everything that it had fallen down the side pocket in the car!! he is a nightmare!!
Big hugs hunnie and have your chinese to cheer yourself up.

Leigh-Anne xx
