Subject : Just been told....

I've just been told I have to have a hysterectomy Frown ... I have the choice though of either having it after christmas or having a mirena coil fitted for a couple of years until Bryn is older and then having it done.... The only thing is in a couple of years time I was hoping to be teaching again and having to take a few months off would mess things up. Plus the sooner I get it done the sooner I will feel more 'normal' again (if thats possible with me!! WhateeeEver! )

I'm really not sure how I feel about it.... I know we can't have any more children (Dave had the snip) but this means I wont be able too.. does that make sense??

Really not sure what to do Confused

Can understand how you feel .... its' so final. My mum had it done about 6 yrs ago. Without going into too much detail they can do it different ways. My mum was on her feet up and about as normal in 3 weeks, although there have been other people I work with where it has taken them 6/8wks.

Thanks El.

Star...I don't have to wait 2 years but the consultant said it might be better to wait until Bryn starts school so that he's not at home all day and understands more.... The earliest he could do it would be January so Christmas would be over and done with anyway.... Id rather either get it done or wait a couple of years - I don't want to have it just on the horizon - not sure if that makes sense - probably not.

I think I've pretty much decided to have it done sooner rather than later then I can get on with my life - just got to see whether dave will be able to get the time off work (shouldn't be a problem as winter is their 'slow' period)

Thanks for the comments x

Bless you. I'd say have it done in jan, as otherwise you'd know it was coming and hav longer to think about it. A friend at work was told Fri and doc said to go in day after for pre-op! She's waiting 4 week then will have 12 weeks off work! I thought it was a 6 week job, but not in her case. I'd opt for the shorter recovery time.

I am definitely leaning towards having it done in Jan... as for recovery - 12 weeks off is about norm - my friend had it done 4 weeks ago and she won't be back in the classroom til the end of term or possibly even jan. I know I wont even be able to drive for 6 weeks which is a real pain - especially where we live. Dave will have to take at least 3 weeks off to look after me and the little ones. It is quite a major op but I can't go on like I have been.... Think my mind is made up ... just got to ring the consultant now - a professor green - who's a real old time doc!! lol xx

Proff greeen - isn't he from cluedo!?!

I think it sounds like Jan is the best time Em. My mum was up and about quicker than they said, just prepare for the worst and then if make a quicker recovery it's a bonus.

Hugs, sounds like a hard decision but that getting it over and done with is the best plan.

Big hugs, hope it all goes well

Aww Em, really sorry to hear this. It sounds like you are making a sensible decision having it done soooner rather than later, I don't think I would want it hanging over me either. Is the reason behind it connected to any of the PND you have been suffering with? If so I really hope that after you have recovered from the Op you start to feel much happier again. You have been having such a rough time of it.
Just wish we were all closer as always so we could take it in turns to pop over with cake and coffee and have a good natter while you are recovering.
Keep us posted as to how you get on with Prof Green!

Hugs xxxxx

Hi honey. I agree with the ladies about sooner rather than later as it might make you anxious knowing its around the corner. Really sorry to hear you have to have it done though and really hope it makes a positive difference to you.
I wish we were all near each other too Liz, its such a bummer! xxx

Thanks everyone.... I'm on the waiting list so it could be done any time in the next 12 weeks - eek!! The reason I'm having to have it done is (and sorry if this is tmi) that I have cysts growing inwards from my womb and they are bleeding into the muscle - which is farily painful - my periods last anything up to 3 weeks and I can be floored completely for days each month. The condition can also cause depression amongst other things so hopefully I will feel a huge amount better afterwards.

Thanks again

Ps - Liz that sounds like a wonderful idea - you're right what a pity everyone lives so far away! x

OMG Emma - so sorry to hear your news but from your last post it sounds like having the op done could be a huge new lease of life for you. If it explains your depression aswell this will be fantastic once you've had the op done.
I hope that you get this done quickly and it doesn't interfere with your new job. many hugs and much love - and i will pop round with cake on behalf of everyone. just let me know where your new house is! xxx

Oh em I'm so sorry, I know it's not nice but sounds like it will really be worth it, my mum had it done when my sis was around 3, she stayed at 'grannies' and it was just treated like a holiday/treat for her, make sure you get all the relatives n friends to book in tlc time in their diaries for you. Take care x

Thank you W4B - I'm definitely making sure I'm going to be looked after - the opportunity to sit back and do nothing while Dave runs around isn't going to happen again! lol x

It is good you have birthdays, christmas and new year in between to keep you busy. How are you feeling about it now you have a date? x

I had been wondering whether I was doing the right thing Liz ... until the last couple of days when I've been in so much pain I realise that I can't go on like this. 6th of Jan is only 2 months away and as you said there will be plenty of things to keep my mind occupied so I'm sure it will go quickly. I'm most nervous about Bryn... he's such a mummy's boy and such a monkey and a thug all rolled into one!! I don't know how he's going to cope without jumping on me and giving me cuddles! I'm sure Dave will cope but I doubt he'll do things the way I do them!! lol.... It has to be done though so we'll sort things out xx
