Subject : BIRTH STORY OF MAX AND BEN (Also in oct)

Hey girls!!

Right this is going to be long so i apologise in advance!!

I arrived at hospital on Thursday 24th Sept at 11am, ready to be induced. The midwife came round approximately 2pm and examined me to find that I was already 1-2 cm dliated, but deicded to still carry on with the induction to speed things along. So the pessery was inserted at about 2.30pm.

I started with tummy and back ache around 5.30pm, so went to go get a bath. I was still on the antenatel ward at this point. After my bath the pains started to get stronger. By 10pm they were really uncomfy, so I was transferred to the labour and delivery suite. I was examined again and was still only 1-2cm dilated!!! Anyway I was given the gas and air to start practicing with, and then they broke my waters!! Thats when the fun began! The pains started coming thick and fast.

I had requested an epidural and was told that they would leave it as long as possible before doing it as it can slow the labour down, but by midnight i was in so much pain and asked for some pain relief and was given pethedine, which i dont think really did that much!!! the gas and air just made me feel drunk and i was begging for the epidural.

I was told that the anethetist was with someone else which was not going well and he would be with me as soon as possible. He finally got to me at about 2am, I was examined and was 7cm dilated. The epidural was inserted and it started working about 10-15 mins later, but felt like a lifetime! Although i cant say it worked as well as i expected it to. All the pain in the stomach and back went but still had pain in my bottom area!!

Anyway I was full dilated about 5am and started to push, it wasnt going well and we stopped for a while. He left me and said that he wanted the epidural too wear off a little as he wanted me to feel the contractions more. so around 6am, we started pushing again. Everytime a contraction came i pushed but ran out of breath so wasnt getting very far!

we took another break and started trying again at 7.15am. He told me that I had 1 hour and if no babies by then I would have to have forcep delivery as i was getting too tired. So i pushed and pushed and was doing well but at the crucial moment i was losing breathe. We got to 8.15 and he told me that he was going to cut me, so was given a local anethestic down below and cut, Didnt feel it, but still not nice!!

Then he inserted the forceps, by this time the epidural had worn right off so i felt ALOT! Baby Max was delivered at 8.30am and weighed 6.3lb, then forceps inserted again shortly afterwards and baby Ben born at 8,45am weighing 5.2lb!

What a relief! Then it was the delivery of the placenta! I couldnt tell you whether or not they did the injection in my leg, but I know that my placenta just wasnt coming out and I was that close to going to theatre to have it removed. Anyway I finally delivered the placenta which was pulled out!

Then I was passed Ben and Jon was passed Max and all was fine for about 30 mins, I had my feet in stirrups and was being stitched up.

The all of a sudden it all went wrong. The room started to go funny and I felt dizzy and sick, I remeber my blood pressure being taken and it was 49/29, and I could feel I was bleeding down below. I dont really remember much after this but Jon said the room was full off doctors and nurses and I was rushed off to emergency theatre with a haemorrage. It turned out part of the placenta was still in me and I had blood clots. I ended up in theatre for about 2-3 hours and had emergency surgery to stop the blood clots and remove the remaining placenta, I lost over 2 litres of blood and ended up having 8 pints of blood on a blood transfusion.

Friday was pretty much a blur. I was taken back to intensive care and stayed there until saturday evening when I was transferred back down to the antenatal ward.

The next bit of bad luck was on the saturday morning the padeactric nurse came to see the boys after their first 24 hours. Max was ok, but Ben had not passed a poo and was vomitting green bile. He was rushed off to special care baby unit and is still there now.

They have done various tests on him and all so far have come back clear. it would appear that ben is prob a slow starter in the bowel department. he is now off drips etc and feeding from a bottle and we hope to get him home in the next couple of days,

SORRY THIS IS SO LONG!

After I was admitted back to antenatal ward my blood pressure started to rise and I developed pre eclampsia, i was therefore not allowed home until they managed to control it! Finally managed to control it and was aloowd home yesterday lunch time after being there for 10 nights!!!

so there you go, my lovely birth story! Not what i imagined but i can honestly say that i would do it all again as i have my gorg little boys and I love them more than words can describe.

so as the saying goes "easy pregnancy, hard labour"! he he!!

I will try and get a picture of the boys on here as soon as possible when they are both together again.

lots of love

OMG that sounds absolutely terrible and so so painful. I am reading your post a work and I know my mouth hit the floor and haven't blinked the whole time I read it. Well done to you especially and to your little fighters and family. All admiration to you. I had an episiotomy 12 years back and don't want to go there again so investing in an Epi-No for sure now.
