Subject : 4Months and a Fussy Eater = Help!
Hi
My LO is nearly 4 months and on SMA LF and Gaviscon Infant as he is lactose intolerant. However he just doesn't seem to either be hungry or like milk? He may have half a feed and then just stops and refuses anymore.
He is a very happy baby and gaining weight but just doesn't want to eat his milk - anyone have any ideas before I go back to the doctor again and they think I am totally neurotic??
Because our first baby was a really hungry baby my husband thinks there is a problem and that this LO is being difficult but I just think he isn'nt bother?
Any ideas welcomed.
Many thanks.
Natalie

All I can say is my lo did exactly the same thing at this age, picked up for a while and is going it again now! She is just over 5 months! I have been advised not to worry as she is gaining weight fine, has the wet and dirty nappies and is generally happy and healthy! I think it is only a concern if they start losing weight!
Tbh - I think they get bored of it after all that time! Yesterday my lo was a nightmare and only took 20oz all day! I am now giving her baby rice in the morning and banana in the evening on the HV's advice, and she will take that even when she refuses any more milk! She seems more settled since I have been doing that :)
Don't know if that is much help or not, but just wanted you to know you are not alone :)

My dd started doing this at about 4 months too. 2 dr's & 8 hv's told me it was a 'phase' and it would soon stop. After 6 weeks of her hardly drinking I finally saw the paeditrician who said it was severe reflux and gave her Ranitidine. The difference was amazing and in a week she was taking mik again. As you lo is on Gaviscon already (mine was too) then its worth pursuing as it just might not ne working any more for her.
Good luck,
Marnie

Marnb - how did the paediatrician diagnose severe reflux?
Our lo's been dropping on his milk for about a month now. He's always brought up more than other babies we meet up with. Not so much in volume but in frequency - he can still be bringing bits up 5 minutes before his next feed.
I wondered if this was similar to your lo and if so I might have a word with the GP about this ranitidine. The infant gaviscon merely made him bring up very thick spit up, which was nice.
