Hi there

My waters broke at 34 weeks and within 24 hours I was in full blown labour and had my lo with in 36 hours.

As for what to expect if you go into labour that's impossible to say really as EVERYONE'S labours are different!

Fingers crossed for you!!! Happy

hi nat,
my waters went at 24 weeks two days later i gave birth
i dont want to worry u but in my experience (and only MY experience) i was feeling crampy and uncomfortable for 2 days and suddenly my daughter was born.... what im trying to say is that i have a 4yr old daugher and she was full term .. the contractions when u r full term compared to contractions at 24 weeks are very very different!!.... or so i found.. everyone is different.. i really hope this doesnt worry you but i want u to be aware that the contractions may be very light and hardly noticable.. like mine
but i really hope she hangs in there!!! .... i have also heard of peoples waters going and the baby not coming for another 10 weeks!!!
good luck xxxxxxxxxxxxx

I second lisa there - my contractions ( this has been my only labour) were much lighter than I was expecting just like period pain aches for a long while but I did know when he was actually coming! FINGERS CROSSED!

Not meaning to scare you, but exactly the same thing happened to me although it was a severe SROM at 25+5. On the day it happened I felt fine but was transferred to a hospital where they were able to deal with extremely prem babies. Th enext day started with mild cramps and by 2 days after very severe cramps every 5 to 10 mins this went on until day 3 and I gave birth at 26 weeks. They should give you injections in each leg to mature babies lungs... it helps lots. My little one has just come home (read my other messages) after 11 weeks on the spacial care unit. I'm not saying that you will go into labour as I did but I think if you are having cramps you need to prepare yourself mentally. It is very hard but the SCBU can do miracles these days. I was totally not prepared, infact the nurses/docs didn't even recognise that I was in labour/having contractions but believe me I was DEFINATELY feeling real bad for the last 2 days. But it came as such a shock, and I was on my own my husband was informed after my daughter was born. I hope things go well for you. My little girl was only 1lb 14oz born and is now 8lb 30z and 17 weeks old! It just goes to show that miracles can and DO happen. Hang in there and try to do as little and stress as little as poss (not easy I know.) Email me if you want to chat x all the best

Hi Nat
My waters went at 24 weeks but went totally, not trickling. The hospital suggested that if I was going to go into labour it would be within 48hrs and I was given steroids and antibiotics whilst I waited. It was hoped I could keep my baby inside for another 10 weeks so there is definately hope. I was unlucky as we did not have a happy outcome but I do believe that if the hospital were worried about you, they would have admitted you immediately for bedrest, steroids and the anti-biotics.
My advice to you would be to demand all the care you feel you need. Also, ask them to test you for Group B Strep as it's not done routinely everywhere and if you carry it, being treated once in labour can be a life saver for a newborn.
Good luck. As mazza74 has proved, miracles can happen.
Let us know how you get on. Thinking of you.

Mine went at 35wks. Just woke one morning and kept finding my knickers wet! And when I went to the toilet it just kept trickling out slowly. Went into hospital and was monitiored, got the usual braxton hicks which at the time were probably very mild contractions coming. Went home the next day and didn't have any signs that labour was coming until that night, so about 36hrs later, and my contractions started. My lo was born the next afternoon.
Good luck xxx

hi girls, thanks so much for all your information, i just got out of hospital today. they admitted me on sunday as starterd getting pains. i was then transfered to another hospitl that could cope if she was born. luckily the pains calmed down and after 6 days still no labour. ive been put on strict bedrest and antibiotics etc. had the steroids so hopefully they will help. feel totally overwhelmed by whats happened, im so unprepared. gonna do a proper hospital bag so i feel less stressed if it happens. consultant said thye will deliver her at 34 weeks latest if nothing happens. obviously if i develop an infection im straight back in to be induced!!! fingers crossed she stays for a little longer. im so scared!! was so horrid being miles away from my son all week, once i get to 28 weeks tye will take her at my local hospital.
thanks again for all ur lovely messages
nat xxxxxxxxxxxx 26+4 in counting!!!

Hi Nat, I'm so pleased that she is staying put. From what I understand, if you are going to go into premature labour it's most likely within the first 48 hours after membranes going so fingers crossed all will now be well for you. It's good you have had the steroids and antibiotics. Keep us posted & good luck!!! George35, x

mum2jay I'm so pleased to hear from you. I told my husband about you after I left my message for you last time and I was in floods of tears. It's a very trying time for you, but I am so pleased that you have managed to avoid full blown labour. I keep reliving my experiences in my head, but am so happy to have my little girl at home. I did something positive today and went to my local Bliss group for prem babies for the first time. Fingers crossed it all goes ok for you, keep us posted and have a look at the Bliss website - its a big help as are other parents of prems on here.
