Is there too much pressure on new mums to lose baby weight?

Subject : Chances of MC again?

Hi girls,

I've been thinking about TTC but so worried that i'll mc again.

I had a threatened mc with Ruby at 16 weeks but all turned out ok and bleeding stopped and cervix closed again. Then I had a full mc this month but was only 6+2.

I don't know if this is just an awful coincidence or if there is now a higher chance of it happening again.

I was expecting to be able to talk to a doctor or somebody about everything but have been told that I wont hear from them (hospital) again.

If I book a doctors appointment I could get anyone, and they may not know much about this issue!!

Does anyone have any experience of this at all, or have read about this?

Thank you so much,
Amy xxx

As far as i am aware and what people have said to me just because you've had one mc doesn't mean you are any more at risk of having another one. Obviously the riske in the first 12 weeks is a lot! The % chnace of having a mc after 12 weeks drops by 60 something % so it's obvisouly a fair bit higher than that in the first place as there is always a small chance no matter how far a long you are. does that make sense? I think its fair to say all of us that hve been through this though are always going to worry about it happening again. I know i certainly will! we are now on cycle 2 of ttc again after our mc in july. xxx

Hi Amy,

I too had a early mc this month. I have been told that this does noy effect my chances in future pregnancies. I have been back to my GP today to talk about my experience and I found him very helpful and has really reassured me. We have decided to ttc again straight away and I too have worries whether it will happen again but I think thats only natural. xxx

Hi Amy & Ruby

I agree with RK I dont think statistically that if you have 1 mc you are at more risk of another. Most women who experience 1 will go on to have a normal healthy pg. When you think about it really the miracle of pg is such a complex thing we probably take it for granted cause we beleive it will be easy & plain sailing which for some it is.
Maybe if there is a particular GP you like then you could make an appt with them to discuss your worries they may be able to put your mind at ease. I also find the mc association very useful for support & information.

Take care hun xxx

I'm 28. when I had my MC they showed me this chart to 'try to make me feel more positive' straight after telling me I'd MC'd. Not the most sensitive timing to be showing me statistics...but it was positive. For someone 25-28 who's only had one MC when you next get PG the chances are >85% that the pregnancy will all go just fine. That's pretty much the same as the first time stats isn't it?
