Subject : Home birth with a toddler?

What have other 2nd time mums done with their other children when having a home birth? Had my first at home and it was great, planning having this one at home too but don't want to frighten the toddler. Got a couple of plans, my mum will be on standby and a close friend will have him if my mum's tied up. Partly I think I'm just worried he'll be in bed (great) but i'll wake him up and he'll be frightened if he can hear me groaning and I don't go to him when he calls...

My 2 aged 3 and 4 were at home when i had my lo. My mom came over to watch them in case i had to go to hospital etc.

To be honest they slept through most of it and only woke about 10 mins before i gave birth. They did ask mom what the noise was and she told them their little brother was being born and they were fine with that and Grandma was with them so that was ok.

We had brought a book called "our water baby" from amazon about a mom having a waterbirth at home which we had read to them every night so they felt they knew what was happening! lol

It was lovely when straight after he was born the other 2 came down to meet their new brother (my 13 year old had stayed to watch :-) )
