Subject : Aptamil Hungry Baby - Your opinions please
Hi ladies,
I normally post in the June 09 forum, but was after some advice please....
We currently use Aptamil Easy Digest for lo, she is 11 weeks old and has no problems with the milk. She poop's once a day, sometimes once every other day - has been like this since birth - very occasionally she will do 2 in a day.
Anyway...she currently has between 5-7oz every 2-3.5 hours - she doesnt normally drain her bottle, there's always some left.
She was sleeping through the night for a week or so, but now wakes once a night which is fine.
When we were trying out different milks, we bought some cartons of HB milk, and I have since heard that it bungs up their tummies/has alot of chemicals in to make the baby think its fuller for longer/harder to digest and causes constipation - I'm just wondering do any of you solely use HB and if so what have your experiences been please?
I was thinking of giving her a bottle of HB each night before we all go to bed to see if this will keep her going through the night but was wondering if that was selfish on my part so she doesn't wake up in the night.
Any advice would be fab, thank you
xx

I can't help on solely hb but I have given my lo a bottle of this before bed for weeks now (she is 20+3) and was told by my hv to do this as she wasn't sleeping through and she was heavy enough that she could have done! It worked after a few days, but then went off again when she started teething for 7 weeks! If she wakes in the night I also give her it then! I have never had any problems with her going to poo and a lot of people I know haven't either! I think it depends on each baby tbh! The only thing I would say is it may be worse if you are already using easy digest as I believe this is for babies who can't process the normal milk that easily? If so, hb may irritate your lo?
So I would say you could try it, but it isn't a guarantee it will help! I don't think you are selfish though - we all want sleep lol :) She could be waking now though because of a growth spurt, or teething? Is she showing signs of either??

hi, we started giving lo aptamil hungry baby a few weeks ago when lo was 7 weeks old as he was only going 2 hrs and if lucky 3 hrs between feeds and guzzling over 40oz a day!!! we only give him hungry baby at 7pm, 11pm and 3am and this gets him through the whole day on normal aptamil every 4hrs too. ds was a little constipated at first but hv told us to give him 1oz of cooled boiled water before each of his day feeds. after a day of doing this he was no longer constipated. i'm only giving him 1oz of water a day now and he is still fine. xx

I agree with Immense, there is no gaurantee it will work I'm afraid.
Up until about 6-weeks ago now (ish), Toby was sleeping through but then suddenly started waking in the night for 1-2 feeds. It was killing us! We were so tired as our bodies had got used to sleeping through and also he was very unsettled after we had fed him, wouldn't go straight back to sleep.
We tried HBM for a week (used a tub!) and it made no difference so my HV recommended he stay on his normal milk (Aptamil).
I think part of it is teething, T has not been too well with a cold and cough that won't budge, and also he needs more milk now but can't manage to get it down him during the day.
You could try and dream-feed? Its never worked for us but some people swear by it helping their LO get through the night.
Good luck, I feel your pain!

Are you sure she is not just having a growth spurt she will probably drop the feed again in a few days.

hiya, i feed riley sole on HBM and have been from 3 weeks on from the advice on my HV as he was feeding every 2 hours and draining a 5oz bottle and was constantly hungry. since feeding on HBM he goes slightly longer at night, from about 9pm - 4am but still goes every 3 1/2 hours during the day. He hasnt suffered from any constipation up to now and hes 5 weeks old. hes now on 5oz of HBM every 3 1/2 hours and is very content and happy and is not overweight which was a main worry for me with him being soley on this milk. i would suggest just trial and error but try not to change milks too much as this can cause probs with lo tummy xx
