Subject : Citalopram??
Hi girls
My GP has started me on these tablets, possibly against my better judgement..
Just wondered if anyone else has experience of them - side effects etc?
C xx

Im on these at the mo. Have been on them 4 months now. The first 2-3 weeks were a nightmare as they made me feel worse and my symptoms became really quite distressing for me. But after they got into my system they seemed to work for a while until 2 months down the line i felt sooooo ill again that i asked for the dosage to be upped. Have been on the increased dose for 2 months again now and they dont seem to be working again.
I have started the counselling thing, but it has taken a while to talk myself into this, but it might just help.
If you want to try out a free on line cognitive behavioural course for depression and anxiety try Moodgym. I found this really good before i started councelling and it was recomended by my GP who also uses it.
If you dont want the meds though you dont have to have them. If you want to try more natural supplements to help instead try St Johns Wort (have used before and works quite well). I believe this can interfere with oral contraceptives though. Can get it at most chemists and health food shops.
Hope things get better.

Hunny, please dont stop taking the tablets without speaking to your doctor. I take these and have been on and off for quite a few years - I had pnd with my 1st and 2nd babies - was given seroxat with my 1st and it nearly killed me!!! I had no problems with citalopram and was given it to prevent pnd with my 3rd baby and it worked. I could not have got through without it, and I am on it at the moment as have been having a stressful time lately. Once it is in your system (takes a couple of weeks) you should settle ok, but speak to your doctor about it, dont stop taking them without professional advice,
I agree with the other ladies, that counselling is fab too, I had a support group to go to that was amazing. it all helps.
Take care hun, you'll get through it and feel better soon. xx

I was put on citalopram 5wks after dd was born, it took a few weeks to work but once it was in my system It definatley took the edge off, I was on 40mg and after 3months, I came off them and felt great, I would say give them a go but its your choice if u don't want to go on meds maybe try counselling first, I used to just have chats with my hv and it helped greatly talking to someone who wasn't in the family.
Take your time, xx
