Subject : Are second labours faster?
Help!! Im due in 2 weeks and I am petrified, more so this time around. I had a perfect labour with my daughter - and you know what they say (No 2 labours are the same). I know I can get complete pain releif like I did with my first, via an epidural (Thoroughly recomended it) but Im worried my second will be quick and I wont get to hospital soon enough. Any advice Welcome? Also any body else suffer with Syphisis Pubis Dyfunction?

hi hayley s, no guarantees, but generally 2nd labours are shoirter - about half the length of first labour. with my 3rd baby i made it to the birth centre 15 minutes bhefore she was born. my poor husband - who jumped every red light and went the wrong way up a one way street - was convinced he'd have to deliver the baby in the car! has anyone else cut it a bit fine?

i had that Syphisis Pubis Dyfunction, but didnt know what it was until after i gave birth, was agonising, i had to sleep on sofa so i could wedge my bump in!!! was very uncomfortable, hoping i dont get it with this baby!! i heard that second time round is supposed to be quicker,im hoping myne is,although my first was only 7 hours and i had a natural birth as when i was far dialated enough for epidural she was coming too quickly, and im so glad too. im hoping its quicker this time for obvious reasons lol if it happens that you cant have epidural this time,i wouldnt worry too much, its not that bas,the bit actually pushing doesnt last long and thats the worst bit,im sure youll be fine, well all get nervous either way lol especially second time round i think!! your lucky to have had it easy (so to spk) 1st time!!! what was the epidural like anyway, did it hurt going in?? tk care, carli xx

No Carli, epidural was heaven didn't feel a thing. IVe got a lot worse with my SPD since I last posted. Infact I cant even move now, so I am booked in with a consultant on Wed and Im hoping they will get the baby out. Ive been abit depressed, and im resenting people - namely my husband for sleeping, my daughter for asking for drinks and food (And I cant get up) and even this baby for causing me sooooooo much pain. Its not fair on them so I think the sooner he is out the better.

ahh bless you, i understand what you mean though, just try not to be too hard on your partner (being hypercrit now lol) tell him he should have more energy to do nights with baby for first few weeks lol i bet you feel rubbish, and when you start being snappy etc you feel terrible but cant control it,and get more worked up!!! just know that one thing is for sure, not long and it WILL all be over!! wish you the best of luck, and hope for your sake you get one of those lovely dream babies that goes all way through the night like i want lol tk care xx

Hi
I was induced both times.
First time I started contracting an hour or so after the first pessary which I had at 9am. By 2pm ish I was 3cm (established labour) I had two lots of Pethidine (one at about 3pm & another at about 5pm) and gave birth at 6:41pm that day.
My second labour I was induced at 3:30pm and started contractions almost straight away. By 7:50pm I was 3cm (established labour) I had one lot of Pethidine at 7:50pm and my daughter was born at 10:08pm.
So yes my second labour was quicker, also more painful!
Worth it though ;)

hi there, my firt labour wasn't a great experience at all 36 hours and pushed for 12 with no luck so after the 35 hour they finally let me have my epidural but had to have an episiotomy and forceps delivery then tons of stiches after so thought to myself that the second couldn't be much worse and i was right my waters broke at 10 in morning didn't have no pain till after 5 in evening went to hospital for quart to 7 and was told i was 9cm! and as soon as i was examined i was birthing and i had my little girl with just gas and air as no time for an epidural at quart to 8 so all done in a day and was a great experience really enjoyed my second both hope you do to!

were your second babies bigger than the first? (thats what they say!!)
wasn't true for mine though! my first was 8lb 2 and the second was only 6lb 13 1/2!
well the first was 2 weeks late and the second a week early so maybe they would have!
by the way i was in labour 6 hours with first and then 3 hours second time round (although having contractions for about 10 hours before established labour!)

hi there i am due in 3 wks and also have spd which also had in 1st pregnancy but much worse with this 1. had awful labour with daughter so hoping this 1 will be much better. i have started having accupuncture had 2 sessions so far and it does feel easier already not in half as much pain come the evening time where as b4 i couldnt even get up off the sofa. is quite expensive but anything is worth a go when ur in so much pain . they also reckon the accupuncture helps get you ready for labour and that it will not be as bad as b4. heres hoping

my first one took 20 hours and he was 8Ib 9, i had an epidural which i recommend too and a couple of top ups as well.. lol
i almost had to have a c-section as the baby was quite big and everyone had said that the second baby was usually bigger so i was really panicky and convinced myself that i would definately by having a c-section the second time.
luckily my second was only 7Ib 8, and the labour was only 3 hours. i was in hospital for 2 and a half hours before he was born but i still didn't have time for any pain relief and although it and hurt and i could feel everything, i felt the recovery was much better this time round and i was back on my feet much quicker and got back to normal sooner.

God i hope this labour is shorter, i was getting contractions for 4 days, and they varied between 20mins apart and 3mins apart, got worse on th sunday and was in the hospital form 11.30pm on the saturday night till 9.43am on th sunday when he popped out, they wouldnt let me go in any sooner than my contractions were 1min30 apart so im hoping this time will be shorter as i spent 5hours in the hospital bath and then 4 hours standing giving birth

I am already worrying about my second labour and only 8 + 3. My first labour was 1hr 40mins and such a shock, no time for pain relief. Worried about this one being faster. Hoping for a home birth because I am worried about getting to the hospital in time but had a lot of problems with SPD and high blood pressure last time so not sure what they will suggest.
