Subject : Long weekend break ideas please!

Hi everyone,
In an attempt to have a little break before LO arrives I have a few days off at the beginning of Sept (I know we have left it a bit late to organise!)
My problem is I just don't know what to do! We would normally go away to somewhere warm but as I seem to burn as soon as I look at the sun and get really hot quickly we thought we ought to give it a miss!
My consultant advised me not to fly as it was a slighty risk and not to take it if it wasn't neccessary. I thought, whilst I understand her reasons, that if we were on short haul that it ought to be okay as loads of people do it (I am currently 22+2 so would be about 24-25wks by then).
I also have SPD so can't do anything too active or will be crippled.
So my wish list is:
-no more than 2 hour flight (less if possible)
- not in the UK (as feel we will probably be holidaying in the UK for the next couple of yrs!)
-good medical service should anything go wrong
-not too much walking
-no more than 25 degrees
-ideally less than £500

Any ideas or thoughts would be great!
Lilou x

Paris or Bruges? If you live close to London you could get the Eurostar instead of fly but plenty of cheap flights from around the country if not. Haven't been to Bruges but the metro system in Paris is dead easy to navigate or you could go on some boat trips. Or just do lots of eating!
There are loads of deals in the newspapers at the mo.
Or try www.octopustravel.com for some good rates on hotels.
Not forgetting to check the reviews on tripadvisor first though!
I love planning trips! We're going to the Algarve at the end of September when I'll be 22 weeks, can't wait!
Hope you have a fab time.

How about Venice?

Flight is just over 2 hours long. Hubby and I are going for four nights next week and it is costing us £450 for flights and hotel (staying on venice mainland, not in the canal bit!). We booked it quite last minute.

My Dr said no one should fly in pregnancy, but I am totally ignoring him! MW said it was fine.

Or how about St Malo on the N coast of France? You can get the ferry there from Protsmouth (I think). There is a gorgeous beach and the town is so pretty. I would definitely recommend it.

How exciting!! Let us know where you decide to go.

Thanks for your replies!
Piggypops, I live less than an hour from the Cotswolds so was hoping to go a bit further a field! Razz It is lovely around there. We spent a few weekends in Cornwall earlier in the year and a theatre break in London so that is another reason why we wanted to go abroad for a change.

I have been looking at the Algarve and Venice actually. But don't know much about the area and what there is to do there. Any suggestions or information or your chioces would be great. (promise I won't stalk you!)
Is Portugal and Spain hot around now still? If we could find a self catering place (so don't have to try and explain in restauraunts the things I can and can't eat every night!) with a pool that would be good. Could sit and read a book and chill then. And eating is a favourite past time! LOL! But maybe not on the budget! Happy
I had discounted the trains/ferries as I wouldn't be able to carry anything or hobble far. I went to a car boot last weekend and walked around for an hour. That afternoon and the next day I was in agony. So sitting looks like it would need to be the main activity!
Thanks for the ideas ladies.

This site has good info on Venice:
http://www.timeout.com/travel/venice

However, I think Venice might involve a bit too much walking if your SPD is bad - although that could always be balanced by riding in gondolas and sitting in cafes eating ice cream! (YUM).

I am going to try and learn a few key phrases before I go: "pregnant", "de-caff, "vegetarian" and "no goats cheese" being the main ones!

St Malo would be better for sitting: http://www.saint-malo-tourisme.com/

If you go somewhere in Europe, don't forget to take your European Health Insurance Card (just in case) and remember your maternity notes too.
