Subject : 39 weeks pregnant about to get a stretch and sweep

hi ladies,

I am currently 39 weeks pregnant with our second child and after visiting the hospital today with some pretty bad pain and so they turned the baby as he was transverse and sent me home on painkillers... they have decided to give me a stretch and sweep on wednesday which is my due date haha....i am completly and utterly over being pregnant and can not wait to meet our precious little son. I am just wondering if anyone has had a stretch and sweep, weather or not it was painful and if it worked for them? just want to know what success rate im looking at hahahaha...also....any other suggestions to get the ball rolling in terms of bringing on labor? the sooner the better Happy

thanks in advance ladies Happy xx

hey hun - i was told 40 weeks is quite early for a sweep and MWs prefer to do it at 41 weeks. hope it works for you xxx

MKB 40+10

p.s. it will only be painful if your cervix isnt favourable (ie soft and dilated by 2cm)

I had a sweep at 39+5, it hurt a lot, but how much it hurts depends on your midwife, how rough they are and how long their fingers are! Often the best sweep is one which is quite rough, be prepared for some bleeding/loss of show afterwards. For me it did nothing except some very painful BH, but I was booked for induction 2 days later so wasn't bothered if it had worked or not!

Good luck xx

Wow... how exciting! Not long now xx

I had a sweep at 38 weeks, it was quite 'vigarous' (sorry TMI) to ensure it was as affective as can be.

It worked!

and...NO, it wasnt painful. A little uncomfortable. Thats all. Stay relaxed and hold partners hand,

Good luck... look forward to hearing your birth story!

x
