Subject : Feeling scared of what will happen
Hi
i am now 19+2 weeks and have been wondering how many weeks I will be when he/she decides to put in an appearance. it really frightens me to think of having to go through it all again. Even though they are going to do an elective C section this time, it's going to be so difficult not knowing when it will be.
i had such a traumatic labour last time, that even the consultant has agreed I need support from the obstetric liason team , but i'm scared it will come too late and I have to face my fears of even going through the labour ward doors.
I know this sounds silly, but those that remember me from Elise's birth will understand how I feel.
Sorry for the moan.

I hadn't realised how ar along you are - I hope you have at least another 15 weeks of pregnancy.
I can see totally why you must be petrified but Elise was worth it in the end I am sure this lo will be too so you just HAVE to stay positive for that amazing lo inside you!
I hope you can do it!

thanks
yes, Im trying to stay positive and taking it easy at the moment. I know i've been lucky to have healthy babies so far. I've had an appt come for a doctor from the liason team. I wish I could have someone like a MW who could support me through it.

Hope the appointment is soon? And that meeting one of the team might help put your mind at rest that you are in good hands. Neither your oh or your mum will leave you this time I am sure which will hopefully make things easier.
Just stay calm and keep taking it easy AND keep your legs crossed!!!

hi
tried to post last night but computer playin up grr.
Thanks for taking the time to reply to my post.
They dont seem to know why I have early babies and in the past theyve tried putting a stitch into my cervix ( with ds no 2) and giving me antibiotics plus regular scans. jordan was born at 34weeks, levi at 32 and Elise at 28 weeks. So thats why i'm scared this one comes even earlier.
However, I was very poorly with Elise as my kidneys couldnt cope and this probably was one reason for her early arrival.
So far I have been ok and am having a scan tomorrow which is exciting. Then they will give me regular ones every 2 to 3 weeks.
Elise's labour and birth were a nightmare and it still upsets me to think about it.
all i can say is if you imagine being in a strange room in alot of pain and no one is there to help you. No one comes for 4 hours ( even when you ring the bell). Then when they do come and monitor you, they just say your not having contractions. the reason the monitor is not picking them up is because its all happening very low down. You know somethings not right but no one will listen to you, So your only option is to call your mum who lives miles away to help you. Next minute your rushed to theatre because your poor 28 week baby is stuck lying diagonally in your uterus and all the membranes are now on the outside. Luckily we both survived but my poor daughter was black and blue from trying to get her out.
sorry, but hopefully youll understand my feelings about returning to the labour ward again.
Hope everything is going ok with you Elisa and you hold on to baby as long as you can.
Sarah, the good news is that you still stand a good chance of going all the way this time.
Its so hard to go through the birth and not get to spend time with your lo. especially when you meet a mum who had her baby at the same time as you and they are pushing their pram and your lo is still in NICU.
have you been on the BLISS website?
they have message boards too and the mums on there are so supportive and understand how you feel. it takes a little while to get on as a member but as Denise will tell you, its really worth it.
Maria x

Hello,
I've only just joined this site this evening, and me and husband (excuse no abriviations not learnt them all yet) are thinking of trying for another baby. I was reading through your posts and would love to hear back from you about having the stitch.
Sadly i lost my first baby my son who i called Taylor at 20 weeks, my scan showed severve abnormailites with no chance of survival, my second baby a little girl i called Lauren came into the world to early again at 20 weeks, the conclusion is due to losing my first i have a weak cervix which lead to loosing my second, 5 years later we think it maybe time to try again. I and my husbabd are petrified of going through what we've been through previously, doctors have said they will offer me a stitch i've read up on this but would love to hear from you about your experience. Sorry if i have given you too much detail.
Take Care Sarah X

Hi
I'm so sorry to hear that you have 2 angels. I cant imagine the pain you must of gone through. i'm sure they'll never be forgotten and will always be with you.
i had the stitch put in at 16 weeks. I went in for the day and had it done under a general aneasthetic. You can't feel anything afterwards. Then as soon as I went into labour and had regular contractions the doctor took the stitch out. as you can imagine thats a bit uncomfortable. I got to 32 weeks with the stitch in and so i'm not sure how much it helped. In some area, mums are given progesterone which seems to help with this problem. So it may be worth asking your consultant about this as it may be possible to have both. Also I can recomend that you visit the BLISS website as you can get some good advice. it can take a little while to become a member but once you are, then you will be able to chat to women who know what you are going through.
good luck hun x

Angels83 i have a short and weak cervix too, so was lucky according to doctors i even made it to 32weeks with my son, as i'd had only teh bare nessicity of appts with mw etc,and hadnt talked about aches pians presure felign as i thought it was just normal, but now i know different amd i 29weeks 2moro, so hopeing i make it further this time, beign so careful sittingstanding anything really following all the phsyio guidlines etc lol im turnign into a panic freak!
I wasnt offered the stich MIMI-MUM-MARIA (saw mw today infact) but she has put my on progesterone as my cervix isnt wide enough for stitch according to her so been out on the tablets instead, hoping they will help as never knew anythign was wrong when i was preg on ciaran so hopeing the tablets will helps me make it further this time. Im also diabetic, anemic, take antidepressants, so its just another tablet to add to the box really! xxxxxxxxxxxxxxx
btw the way yeah i joined bliss yesterday, great website donated to the charity when i worked, strange how its come back like that. When i had my son he was in ireland and in a scbu funded mostly by bliss as the local region couldnt afford equipment etc, so i can honestly say i got wya more than my moneys worth!

hi sarah
I really hope the progesterone will help keep baby inside as long as possible. Sorry to hear about all your other health problems too. i've been put on anti depressants too. Which ones are you on? I'm on cetelapram ( sorry bout spelling)
I'm really pleased you managed to get onto the BLISS messageboard. Some of the mums are really supportive and know how you feel as theyve been there. If youve never been on the journey through NICU you dont understand how hard it can be.
youve done so well so far and I look forward to updates on how things are going.
Maria xx

Hi hon, i just wanted to wish you all the best.
When i was on with my dd there was a lady who had never gotten to 30 weeks with any of her 4 pregnancies-she said they didnt know why but she was very small so maybe this was a factor her hubby was a very big man and they thought maybe her body expells the baby once it starts a growth spurt or something but all her babies after a short stay in the special care did very well,
I understand this doesnt take away from the fear, i to am counting down to 24 weeks and then anything after will be very happy with.
so goodluck to u and your baby,x

Hi
thanks so much.
i'm quite diddyat barely 5 ft and take a size 3 in shoes. So this probably has something to do with it.
Wouldnt it be sooo nice for us both to get passed 36 weeks and have our babies next to us.... just for once.
how many weeks are you now?
Good luck
Maria xx

We are having a little boy this time-found out two weeks ago as we are both too impatient to wait,
My 20 week scan is on the 29th of this month though i will also get one on thursday when i see the consultant as he will need a doppler.
I am gearing up for when i get the steroids-they really sting dont they? last time i cried-wimp i know.
How old is Elise now?
do you mind if i ask how long she was in hospital for and what she weighed?
Did she have any problems?
Sorry i am just getting more and more nervous that i will have this baby delivered in the 20's rather than the 30s.xxx

Hi Maria, iv not been on BE for a while and i cant believe your 25 weeks already. It must feel like longer to you though. You have the best possible care so you will be very closely monitored this time. If at any time your not happy with anything you have the right to a second opintion.
Elise must be zooming about the place now causing all sorts of havoc.
Congratulations to Elisa, mummygachette and queenbee on your bumps too. Its so exciting having all these new babies on the way.
xx
