Subject : Advice re sleeping bags

Hi guys

I am after all your fabulous advice girls. As a first time mum-to-be, i'm getting more confused by the day!

i'm due 13th September and will be having bean in a moses basket for the first few months, then moving into cot/nursery. i want to use sleeping bags/gro-bags as i believe they're much easier?

So, i could use some advice as to what togs to get? For 0-6 months, it'll be september through to february - so i'll be faced with warm indian autumn nights going right through to bitter cold new year nights. should i get a variety of different togs? is 1.0 tog a summer one, and would that be too light? i don't want to rush out and buy a thick winter tog one only to suffocate poor little bean on the warmer nights?

Help!!!!!

Hi Teabags as I live in Scotland I have a 2.5tog for the autumn/winter and have been using it during the summer as well. It has got really chilly here at night.

Depending how hot your lo nursery is then you would possible need 1.0 tog & 2.5 tog?! If you have a cold house then I would just buy the 2.5 and see how you get on?

Hope I haven't confused the subject more. I have heard of ladies here buying the bambino merino sleeping bag as it keeps baby cool as well as hot if need be as it is made with sheeps wool. Maybe worth looking into. They are expensive but from what I have heard worth the money.
xx

As a rough guide. If the temp is less than about 20 degrees, then I'd use a 2.5 tog - if it's over that then a 1 tog is probably better, xx

I think you'd probably need a 2.5tog. I used these for the first couple months and my baby was born at the end of March.

Hi

My daughter was born on 3rd september last year and we used 2.5 tog right from the start. She was 8lb 8oz so was ok but you need to make sure little one is over 7lb 7oz and that the head hole is not big enough for him/her to wriggle down into the bag.

We just adjusted clothes underneath according to weather eg just vest or sleepsuit or a vest and sleepsuit plus socks when really cold!

Bear in mind you will also need 2 or 3 bags as if baby is sick on one then you will need to have a clean one ready. We had two sleeping bags and one night lo managed to be sick on both of them in the space of an hour cue mad middle of the night washing and drying and worrying bubs was ok with blankets - I waa terrified she was going to wriggle under them as she never stays still! xx
