Hello!

I am currently ttc (on 3rd cycle since d&c), I take pregnacare daily but I want to start take omega-3 fatty acids after hearing good things about them...i can only find them either in a mix with other fish oils and vitamins, including vitA which you're not meant to take whist pg (Vitamin A, present in liver, is a "teratogen", which damages the development of cells in foetuses, leading to the developments of conditions like spina bifida, hydrocephalus and urinary tract malformations.

So, the omega-3 fatty acids is found without vitA but with glucosamine ... Does anyone know if it is ok to take glucosamine during pg/when ttc?!

Sorry this is a dull post but any views/info would be gratefully received!!

Thanks,

Kristen xx

Omega-3

Hi Kristen

I went to a nutritionist to sort out my diet before I started ttc and on her recommendation have been taking the BioCare Mega EPA 1000 capsules. They are great and have no Vit A.

2 capsules contains:

Fish oil concentrate 2000mg
Lecithin (soya) 100mg
Natural Mixed Tocopherols 2mg

She also put me on BioCare Ante-Natal Forte which are much better than the Pregnacare.

You can order them direct from the Biocare website: http://shop.biocare.co.uk/Search.aspx

Ive been on them both (and also Vit C) for about 18 months now. Although I had a mmc in Oct at 10 wks, Im now pregnant again at 23 wks. The Ante-Natal Forte and the Mega EPA can be taken before, throughout your whole pregnancy and also whilst breast feeding (if you choose to breastfeed).

Ive not had any negative symptoms this pregnancy and have had loads of energy before and during it (so far so good!) and I put it down to these supplements so I highly recommend them!

Hope that helps
x

Thanks hon - Im counting on my energy being up for 39 wks, labour, and beyond for the next 18years! Happy

I can't recommend them enough. I never used to take any supplements before starting ttc and I really did see a difference in terms of energy levels. Just maintain a good diet with them - make sure you get your 5 a day... actually count each portion to ensure you do. I always thought I was getting it in until I actually started counting and I realised I was actually only getting about 3 portions a day, and less on weekends when I got a bit lazy.

- no matter how many juices you have in 1 day, it only counts as 1 portion
- if you have 2 or more of the same thing, it only counts as 1 portion

Getting all that sorted now helps you to maintain good practice for when you fall pg which makes you and bub feel even better - plus you wont put on excessive weight that you only have to lose.

xx
