Subject : Can anyone help - poorly baby due to my breastmilk

Hi ladies.

On Friday i was prescribed antibiotics due to mastitis, and they've given both me and my lo a bad tummy and really really bad diarrhea.

My lo is sufferring badly with colicky cramps and I feel so awful, cos if it wasn't for my breastmilk, he'd be ok.

I've been prescribed new antibiotics today, but in the meantime, i've decided to give my son formula until I feel better.

Do you think this is the right thing to do? I've been so proud of myself for solely bfing him so far, and i'mnot sure that i want to go down the route of formula - any thoughts?

Personally I would keep bfeeding him. I had a similar thing with my first, I had mastitis twice in the first 6 weeks and both times the antibiotics upset her. If you've been given new antibiotics you will probably find that he will be better tomorrow, and if he's not used to formula that may well upset his stomach anyway. Like cara says though, if you do give him formula it's really, really important to express every time he feeds to keep your supply up.
Hugs, mastitis is horrid!
