Subject : C-Section Tummy Over Hang

Hi,
I have seen many of you refer to this c-section over hang in a few chat rooms. I have one too, I have this little bit of my tummy that hangs over my scar. My son is now 14 months, I am 39 and currently trying for baby number two.
My questions are, does this over hang get worse with secton number two and has anyone worked really hard to get rid of it and been successful?

Debs

Hi,
I had my second daughter, again by c-section, four months ago. The over-hang is still there at the moment, but it did go down after my first daughter was born. I think when you've had a baby by c-section you forget that you've also had a major operation and that what with swelling and scar tissue it takes time to heal. x

Hi Vicky
Thank you for your reply. Did you exercise to help your tummy go down? I must admit when I started doing sit-ups before my holiday in May my tummy did get a lot flatter and I wondered if I'd kept going whether I could have made a big difference. I have stopped as trying for another baby.
Can I ask why you had a second c-section?
I had an emergancy section with my son after 4 days of labour and I think I would prefer to have another section. x

Hi Debbie,
My first baby was breach, two weeks early and weighed in at 11lb 2oz, so I opted for a second section as they anticipated the baby would be bigger - she was in fact 12lb 13oz and also two weeks early, so both mine were classed as emergencies.
To be honest, I haven't done any exercise at all apart from plenty of walking. Gracie is coming up to 16 weeks now and whilst my stomach looks flat when I'm dressed there's still this weird over hang over the scar.
It did get flatter after my first, but I got pregnant when she was nine months so am not sure if it'll go all together.
Best wishes x

I have 2 kids aged 3 and 1. The first was an emergency c-section as he was big (and I am short) and he was stuck. The consultant who delivered him said he thought I would always have trouble delivering naturally due to the way my cervix turned so when I had my daughter I went private and opted for a c-section. I had started to lose weight before I got pregnant for the 2nd time and the overhang was getting a bit better (mine is pretty bad - I think it looks like one of those before liposuction photos!). It got a little worse after having my second child and am now trying for my 3rd so bit worried what it will look like after this one.

Hi
I have had 2 sections and suffer with a terrible overhang. Unfortunately as a previous Dermatology (skin) nurse specialist I can report that there is nothing you can do for the hangover because scar tissue shrinks which causes the hangover. It may get better with time but the only way to get rid of it completely is to have surgery!!!!! Hence why celebrities dont have it.

Just to say that my friend had a tummy tuck and her tummy is as flat as a wash board and she said it was worth every penny. She chose it over a brand new kitchen! xxxx

3 c/s down the line and i do still have the dreaded overhang! in all fairness, i'm not paticularly slim - BMI 25- but this part of my tum doesnt really move when i lose weight.

as georgia1 says - celebrities dont have the overhang as it is dealt with in theatre - alledgedly tho' Posh denies having one (along with the boob job!).

zoey - where does your mum's friend live!! i dont know of anywhere you can get a tummy tuck post c/s on th nhs!! she must have really reported psychological trauma to manage that!! i tried asking my consultant (who i know!!) if he'd do it when i had my c/s, and he just laughed!! i may have to move near her!

vickyc - do you mind me asking are / were you diabetic? your babiesere huge, werent they! no wonder you needed a c/s!
