not got a cat but wen our dog had fleas the only way we got rid of them was to get the council in and spray the house with this special stuff, ul have to speak to them to see if its safe in pregnancy but i had a 6 month old crawling around the house and they sed it was fine for him. also our dog was on frontline and it did work to keep the fleas away thou hubby forgot to frontline him 1 month and he caught fleas then the frontline did not work at all and we had to change him advocate and wev not had any probs for 2 yrs, we swear by the stuff!!

good luck!!

my cat got fleas when i was pg last time. hubby was away for a month with work so mil took over!

she went to the vet and was given treatment for the cat and a flea comb. she was given spray for the house and used the hoover after to remove them!

i was advised to stay away from the house while treated and stayed with my mum for few days.

definately try and get it sorted asap as it gets worse and worse.

we have a dog and 2 cats, in all my years experience with havein dogs frontline only works for a period of time then the animal becums amune to it, we use advocate and another one and there brill!
you can get a spray form the vets to spray round all the skirtings in every room bout 15quid a tin and its quite q large one, make sure u wash all ur cutains, cousins, bedding and hoover ur matresses aswell can nvr be too carefull!
but ud have to check with ur vets if spray is safe in pregnancy but is fine around children coz ive used it.

hope this helps

Hi DB
Sorry to hear you have this, it does make you itch all over thinking about it!
But it can be sorted so don't worry! Which frontline spot on are you using? Is it the normal one or combo?
The combo one treats the house as well as your pet. It is very important to treat the environment as well as your pet if you want a quick resolution as 95% of the fleas live in the environment and only jump on your pet to feed. Female fleas can lay up to 50 eggs a day so you can see if you don't treat the house too then these eggs hatch out multiplying your problem in no time. If it is the normal spot on, you need to wait for each adult flea to jump on and feed to be killed, (it takes 24hrs for them to die) hence you still seeing live fleas. So although the product works, it isn't working quickly enough or on a large enough scale.
So, check these things if it is the normal spot on (frontline- don't use 'cheaper' products as they aren't as effective). Is it in date? What weight is your pet? For cats, they have to be under 6kg or it won't work. You will need to use a different product such as Advocate or Advantage.
If your cat is in the weight bracket and in date you need to get a treatment for the house. As someone else mentioned this. Go to the vets and get Indorex or Acclaim. This will kill the adult fleas and eggs in the environment.
Got someone else to do this. Spray everywhere and wash all bedding. You need to hoover everyday for 10 days post treatment. The vibrations encourage any fleas in the pupae stage to hatch and be killed by the product. There is no treatment short of a blow torch that kills fleas in the pupae stage. All the windows should be closed and the door shut for at least an hour in each room that is treated. This will maximise effect. As you are pregnant you should not do the treating or be exposed to the sparay. Ditto if you have fish as it will kill them.
If you need any further info let me know!

Hey hon
Something that may help. I have 2 cats but luckily neither have hadfleas. In the cleaning section of the supermarket they do shake and vac but for killing fleas. You can do all your carpets with it. I do it sometimes especially when our cats come out of hte cattery just in case. It may be worth trying it.xxxx

Hiya,

Go to your vets and ask them for a spray called 'Indorex' then swap the cats from Frontline to Stronghold. Stronghold is very similar, but it's new and better.

Good luck!

the cat is now sat in his cat box awaiting a trip to the vet. i said to dh that you can get him injected and he said that was a fab idea and that we cld then block up the cat flap. can you tell that the cat is mine and dh is not a fan lol

DB! Don't get the flea injection!!!

It won't stop your cat picking up live fleas from other places, it works like a contraceptive for the female flea making all her eggs infertile. Your cat can still bring in live fleas which will bite you. Plus, it's really expensive.

Just use the Stronghold it does both.

(Speaking from years of experience - am vet nurse.)

Yeah, vets often get special deals from the drug companies to push certain stuff.

Stronghold needs to be given once a month. It's less liquid and much easier to apply than Frontline.
