Subject : Aspirin and Progesterone pessaries

Hi girls,

I've just popped over from planning but was wondering if anyone could help me?

I had a mmc at 10 weeks in Nov last year then another at 8 weeks in March this year. I had blood tests and a scan for investigations and everything, thankfully, came back normal. However, at my follow up with the gynae consultant, he advised i start on low dose aspirin a month before i start ttc again and then once i get a BFP, i'm to start progesterone pessaries, once a day, until 12 weeks.

Now, i'm happy to start the aspirin but on researching the progesterone, i'm really not sure why he's starting me on it...i haven't got a hormone deficiency and was reading that the pessaries are only given if there are low hormone levels - not if they're normal.

So sorry to ramble but can anyone help?

Any advice would be much appreciated!!

I'm planning on ttc in Sept x

First off honey im sorry to hear about your losses it can't be easy!
It sounds to me like your gyne is being safe rather than being sorry and i guess that can only be a good thing. It might be a pain in the bum (literally lol) but if it might help then its deffo worth it!
Personally i would just take it and feel confident your doing everthing you can for this LO!
Loads of sticky baby dust coming your way!
Hugs xxxxxxxx

Thanks MrsTIL - firstly, i didn't realise you'd had a mc too, even tho you join us in planning sometimes - i'm so sorry.

If other ladies have taken both and it's a common thing to do then i think i prob will start it come the BFP...i was just worried about side effects of too much progesterone in my body when i'm pg.

It is a confidence thing i think - i've felt so let down (by myself more than anything) after the 2 mc's that anything that will make me think more positively has only got to be a good thing.

See you in planning soon hun - sticky baby dust to you too x x x

Hi Sparkly

I used progesterone pessaries last month during the 2ww on the advice of my fertility unit, as I had a suspected luteal phase defect, which was causing me to spot from 8/9 DPO. They didn't know for sure whether it was due to a progesterone deficiency (my blood tests in 2008 were all fine; the spotting only started after an MC in January) - but said the progesterone would do no harm at all.

It sounds to me like your doctor is being cautious, but I think that's a great thing.

The pessaries are really easy to use and you don't notice they are there. I would recommend you use a panty liner though - what goes up, inevitably, does eventually come down!

Best, best of luck and I hope your next bean is a super sticky one. (And if your special baby dust comes in the form of a pessary from the doctor, so be it!!)

Thanks so much MrsD - it's great to hear from someone who has used them and reassuring to know that using them wont do any harm.

I don't know whether you are pg or not but lots of sticky baby dust to you too and good luck Smile

Hi Sparkly - no, I'm not, unfortunately!! The fertility unit prescribed the pessaries for me to use in the 2ww just on the offchance we manage a BFP, but AF turns up every month without fail. It's month 16 TTC now, and we are on the wait list for IUI (starting in September), followed by IVF if that doesn't work.

xx
