Subject : Baby has big tummy, being tested for diabeties
Hi all
Not sure how I feel about this or what it means, I have been today for my scan to see if the placenta has moved which it has which is good. But they took measurements and they say the babys head is average, but babys belly is over average and that because of this I have got to be tested for Diabeties. I am worried baby will look out of proportion and what this all means.
Anyone heard of this before?
I am 36w tom but the scan put me at 36 + 1 I am measuring 38 weeks and according to the scan baby is already 8lbs????

scans cant accuratly tell weight of baby so dont worry too much, the docs/hospital will only act in urs and babies best interest and everything will be fine, Gestational diabetes is becoming quite common nowadays. Dont worry too much stress isnt good, sounds easier than said but relax and enjoy ur last few weeks :) x

Hi
Just to reasure you, ds3 kept measuring as a massive tummy, it was over the 95th centile but head and length were 50th centile.
They kept checking me for diabetes but i didnt develop it. They told me to expect a baby near the 10lb mark and called him a whopper.
He was born 8lb 10 and didnt look fat at all, he now measures on the 25th centile for weight so i hasnt become a long term problem at all. the sonographers really worried me and all for no reason, ive since looked into it all and when they tell you the weight it really is little more than a guess.
good luck

Hi Annette
Don't have any words of wisdom, other than they got Cameron's expected weight completely wrong too. Just wanted to say hi, and see how you're doing. Can't believe you're 36wks already, that's gone so fast!!!
