Subject : Tooooooo impatient!!!!!!!

I am shocking! BUT after ttc 18 months and now finding what the problem is I want it fixed! Phoned for my HSG today and (predictably!) they can't get me in this month and said it could take three tries. I thought I'd book the follow up with the Gyn in advance so that I then didn't have to wait for that even longer. I was given an appt for 25th Nov!!! WTF???!!! The HSG is instant, is it not? And DH's last SA took 48 hrs!!! Confused

Anyway, I rang the consultant's secretary and asked whether, if I booked a private HSG that he could see me as a private patient but earlier than friggin New Year!!! The answer was a resounding yes, HSG booked for Weds and follow up for Aug.

It makes me mad (and I know I'm only at the start of a long road) that our waiting is just made so much longer than it needs to be. My understanding is that by self-funding the investigative side of things we are nor compromising the treatment under the NHS. If we carry on at this rate, we won't be able to afford the flippin' baby when it shows it's face!

Sorry girls, I know this rant is a bit pointless and makes me sound like a 6 year old stamping her foot but it made me feel better! XXXX Wink

That is dreadful honey, I must be very lucky where I live as I had my initial and 2nd appointment just 5 weeks apart and had my hsg and blood test in between. It must be so hard hearing you have to wait all that time having already waited so long anyway I cant blame you for paying to go private, hope you are not too much out of pocket xxx

I'm glad you don't think I am ridiculoulsy impatient. Looby - I was delighted to get my first appt within about 4 weeks of seeing doc but the receptionsit said to me yesterday that they have guidelines which say you must have your initial consultation within 5 weeks of your referral. She pretty much said (dressing it up a little, but not much) that once you're in the system the rules are there are no rules! x

Its just another really "UNFAIR" part of this whole thing isnt it. I thought I would have to wait longer to get my 2nd appointment too but I was thrilled when he said come back in 5 wks. However it could be becasue he wanted me to take part in the trial he is conducting but weather id said yes or not I would have got my first lot of treatment at that appointment.
Its shocking that they make people wait so long, its just wasting presious time and making this journey so much more aggonising. I sometimes wonder if it is done on purpose to make people pay privatley as I know some ladies were suggested to go private for speed!

I think you're right looby. I certainly wasn't discouraged from paying for the HSG and, as a result, was offered a significantly brought forward appt. I'm also thinking I need to get used to this though - we're at the start of a very long road and there's not a huge amount of money in the baby pot! Glad you guys have been a little luckier with the timings x

Oh Kayecee what a pain and no you're not impatient, your rant it completely reasonable. It's so frustrating not being able to get on with things. Such a postcode lottery too, we've been pretty lucky and although it seems to have been interminable we've been able to make really quick process once we got to the fertility clinic.

Really hope your HSG comes back good, clears your tubes and means you don't need any further treatment and just get that lovely BFP!

x

Thanks DG. I'm really hoping the tubes are okay. We already have issues with hubby's (very) low motility so I'm hoping we don;t have to contend with any blockages or anything on top.

I'm having my HSG on Weds (which hopefully will be all clear and flush me out a bit), having acupuncture on Thurs and then off on hols on Sun. I'm (not so secretly) hoping that that combination might just help us get a miracle BFP xxxx

Hello love, no I absolutely agree with you and it drives me bonkers that it differs so much around the country.

We have had to wait 5 months for my OH to have a SA which is ridiculous!!!!!

We know that whatever happens next that we will have to go private because the waiting lists are so long and as I am nearing 37 I really don't have time on my side and will just have to find the money from somewhere.

HOPING FOR GOOD RESULTS FOR YOU X

Hi Hun

Thats unbelievable - i can completely understand why you've gone private.

Can i ask what it is costing for the HSG and follow up consultation.

Sorry if thats being cheeky but i have my first appointment on the 20th August and suspect that my next step will be a HSG.

If i have to wait 6 months for a follow up consultation i might consider going private also depending on the cost.

Kayecee, just wanted to wish you luck for HSG today, hope everything's clear. I agree with all the comments, so I won't repeat them. Bloody annoying process!

Thanks for the messages everyone - will let you know how I get on later. Smileychops - 5 months for an SA?! That's outrageous! Suzannah - of course I don't mind you asking! I contacted a few private hospitals and the price varied from 278 pounds to 336 pounds (I am assured that includes all report writing, x rays, etc) so I shouldn't have to pay anything on top. I eventually booked in at a hospital about 20 mins away that is costing 320. As it happens (this was the odd bit) I spoke to the consultant's secretary and said that I was considering booking a private HSG but didn't want to do that if I still had to wait til Nov. We were willing to pay for the follow up privately (I'm guessing that's about 120) but she advised that a new clinic had just been added mid-Aug and gave us an appt (at no cost). All rather odd!
