Subject : Hair...
Hi Girls,
My mc will be 7 weeks tomorrow and I still have quite a lot of hair shedding - is this normal?
I mean its not coming out in clumps and I'm not going bald!!!! But like a week or so after the mc when I washed my hair, dried it and even brush it I get lots of strands of hair tangled in my fingers, brush/comb what not - lots more than normal and its like I am constantly picking hair off my clothes and have to watch when I am cooking as keep finding hairs in the meals (luckily just for me and hubby!!!!!) and its still going on now.......when does it stop?!
My friend whose had a baby said its because of the pregnancy hormones and when I was pregnant I wouldn't have shed that much hair as your hair goes thick and glossy but sheds once baby born, hence guess a week or so after mc - is that right? Would a 7+3 days pregnancy affected my hair that much??!!
Just wish it would stop as it feels like a constant reminder of what I have lost and makes me sad for my little angel

Hi Radkad,
Im sorry to hear about your loss, as for hair loss I know I always loose a lot of hair so not sure if this loss has actually increased, ive not been massively aware of it. If you are concerned could you speak to your gp or go to the hairdressers , she wouldnt have to necessarily be told the whole story but she could have a look at your hair if you are worried
really sorry it keeps bringing up sad memories

Thanks Luc I did have the hairdressers at weekend and whilst she was doing my hair she asked if I have just had a baby and I said why and she said oh coz of the way your hair is coming out and sort of brushed over the mc and asked when it would stop and she didn't know...........which is why thought would ask you lovely ladies in case anyone did!
Oh well hopefully stop soon enough.
Hope you're OK Luc xxxx

Oh hun, sorry I thought the hairdresser would know, I think people find it difficult talking about mc as if it is such a taboo subject when it probably affects everyones life at some stage in 1 way or another. I have a couple of friends who are midwives so when I get a chance I will ask them if they know anything. have your HCG levels come right back down now?
2 be fair my hair is a complete mess and have myself booked in to get it sorted tomorrow, all I have been focusing is on being pregnant and trying to get to the end of the 1st trimester but obviously wasnt meant to be this time, so need a bit of a makeover and to get myself out of the house!
found a couple of websites that could be useful, doesnt sound uncommon but looks like it could last for up to 3 months after a mc, also some mention of thyroid issues, but sounds more likely the reaction to change in hormones and stress:

OMG!! I'm exactly the same as you! I had a mmc 8 weeks ago, got to 12 weeks but baby died at 9! And my hair is coming out loads more than normal- i'm constantly picking it off my clothes and have loads in hairbrush and in plughole when I wash it!! Also. my hair is normally quite thick and healthy looking, but at the moment its lank and dull and feels like theres hardly any left! I've been quite worried about it but have told myself that I'm fine unless I develop any bald patches!
Hopefully we'll be fine hun! Really sorry to hear about your mc! xx

Hey girls thanks for the replies and Luc thank-you for the links they've been really helpful.
How's your hair? Did you feel pampered at the hairdressers?
Joesgirl, sorry for you loss hun xx I know I kept thinking as long as I don't go bald then a few strands is OK but its just soooo annoying it being all clogged in the drain etc etc
