Subject : My 21 month old keeps waking in the night
Hi there
Any advice?? Upto now I have had the perfect child. She used to sleep a good 12 hours but these last few weeks she has been a nightmare. Waking about 3 times during the night and then wide awake very early. Nothing in the routine has changed. The room is very dark, and she is eating reasonably well. Not really sure why this is happening. Anyone else have same problems???
Thanks
Tracey & Ellie

hi my little boy is 21months and has been the complete opposite! It took him 9 months before he slept through then was on and off for months, sometimes right thru, other times waking several times a night. In the end I did CCing and it took me 3 nights. He will still ahve the occasionally night when he's restless but its normally when he's not 100%
Did anything trigger it off? cold? or teeth?
What do you do now when she wakes? do you go in and comfort her? I'm just wandering if she's being crafty, waking and expecting a cuddle from mummy now?
I also very rarely goes into shea's room if he wakes now, as I know when its a distress cry or just a grizzle, so when its ineveitably a grissle I jsut stand at his door and say "ssshh, its bed time go to sleep" and generally he does.
With the waking early (shea used to get up at 5!!) I was advised by an hv to do a similar thing. I started by going in room, no lights on limited eye contact and just resettling him, saying "ssshh its too early" and walking out. He got the message after a few days and now wakes at 6 - 6.30 which is fine for me as I have to get up for work anyway.

i went through the same thing when my daughter was just over 2 and it went on for about 2 months. she was a great sleeper 12 hrs went down no problem. then like your wee 1 started to wake 2-3 times a night. the only thing i could do was shush her and leave if she got up i just put her down again. unfortuneatly there's not alot i can advise you on other than she did stop eventually. it was an awful time as i was hanging by a thread every day yet she was bright and breezy in the morning...
i put it down to growing and learning new things it is hard, i hope it passes quickly sorry i couldn't be of any real help...

Thanks all. I will keep you posted. Nothing in her routine has changed. I have noticed some big back teeth coming through but she doesn't complain at all in the day and has lots of energy. Today I limited her afternoon nap to 1 hour (she sometimes sleeps for 2.5 hours) but again that is something she has always done and used to still sleep well. Today I did run her ragged so she was pretty tired and went to bed at 9pm quite easily so we shall see how we go tonight. I do give her milk sometimes when she wakes as that settles her quicker. She stands in her cot and screams. I am just worried she will be sick as she has done that a few times when she cries. I hope everyone else gets on OK and any help much appreciated. One good thing I suppose is we r not alone. Big hugs xxxx
