Subject : How soon to try again after mmc.

Hi, i suffered my fourth mc last week. I had a mmc, was meant to be 8 weeks but scan showed 6 weeks with no heartbeat. Had to go in last Thursday for medical management. Not the best experience ive had. I have four children and have had 3 mcs between them. Those mcs i passed naturally. I have been told that once i have one AF i should be able to try again. How long have you waited? Thanks Sara

Hi Sara

So sorry to hear about your MCs. I was told to wait one AF before trying. This advice seems to vary but we pretty much stuck to it. Luckily for me my AF only took 4 weeks to show after ERPC but can understand those who have to wait several weeks longer getting fed up and deciding to start TTC again!

Good luck and big hugs xx

Hi Sara,

I'm so sorry to read about your loss.

I had a mmc/d&c back in April at 7+4. We were told that we should wait one cycle but I was very keen to ttc asap. I did a lot of investigating - spoke to midwives, spent hours on google etc., and the only reason I could find for waiting one cycle was to ensure that emotionally you are ready to ttc again and for dating purposes...based on that we decided to ttc straightaway and started about a week after the d&c...unfortunately I am CD11 on cycle 3 and still no BFP..

I personally am of the opinion that if you're body isn't ready to get pg then it won't...

All of this is just opinion mind, and you obviously have to weigh it all up and decide what is best for you and your OH.

Good luck and take care,

Kristen xx

Hi Sara

Sorry to hear about your loss, I went through an ERPC yetsreday and all they said to me was to wait 2/3 cycles, but it was the nurse that told me that and I askesd her what medical papers she based her information on and she was slightly flumaxed, I guess people just nod and agree with everything they are being told and assume that the people caring for them know the best, but like Kristen says the research suggests its more about emotional well being rather then the physical aspects and the research they have done in this area is slightly limited.

I know personally we will be bding this month without protection but I wont be using ov sticks or anything till after we have had 1st af when I will get the cbfm out again, fo the next few weeks think we will just take it easy and bd when we feel like it and not worry if we dont feel like it!

Its really up to you hun and whats right for you

Love Luc xxx

Hi hun, sorry to hear of your mc! My husband and I started TTC again straight away after my mmc in May- just as soon as I felt up to it, but we didn't wait for first AF! Anyway, I'm now on CD23 of cycle 2 and keeping my fingers crossed!
I would try again as soon as you feel up to it, and I agree with Kristen, you won't get pg again until your body is ready, it will happen when the time is right!! Good Luck! xx

Hi Sara

I'm so glad you asked this question as i had mmc/d&c on friday and i am desperate to start ttc as soon as possible.

My midwife said the normal advice is to wait one cycle and that she did read some research that couples who didnt wait 1 cycle may increase their chances slightly of another miscarriage- but she did question the validity of the research so i'm not sure now whether to wait or not.

Also i wanted to know how soon after a d&c/erpc did couples have sex? i asked my midwife and she said when the bleeding stopped. Well i think my bleeding has stopped today-only two days after my d&c. is it too early to have sex?

I feel like im in a limbo land and i really don't know what to do!

thanks for any advice xx

Hi Mrs Pies, sorry to hear about your loss, we havent had sex yet as the bleeding hasnt stopped we had d+c tuesday, its slowed down, but don no yet if hcg is out of system yet either as havent yet tested thought id leave it about a week. they advise you to wait as you are at a higher risk of infection if you are still bleeding as cervix will be open slightly but we intend to get back bd'ing as soon as bleeding stops,so I guess it is whenever you feel ready all the best Luc xxx

Thanks Littleminx. Think i will wait until there has been no bleeding for at least a whole day, definitely don't want to risk an infection.

I think i will get my OV sticks out again just to see if i'm still ov'ing. Will start using them again in about a week.

Thanks again Littleminx

Hi, i finished bleeding last Wednesday after having medical management. Im going to leave it for one cycle before i ttc. I had a mc before this mc and am worried in case that was the reason why i mc again. They said because i caught straight after the mc they thought that was why i mc again. Something to do with the lining of the uterus not being strong enough. Please don't quote me on this because this is one doctors opinion. A friend of mine caught straight after a mc and gave birth to a beautiful daughter. Im just so scared incase it happens to me again that i have chosen to wait one cycle.

I did a hpt test this morning and got a really, really faint line so im hoping it is nearly out of my system. Got a scan tomorrow, Monday, just to check.

Sara x
