Subject : SPD again in second pregnancy?

Hi there,
I suffered really badly with SPD in my first pregnancy and am nervous about trying for a second baby in case I get it again. The pain was truly awful and I still occasionally get the odd sharp twinge or general aching around my hips and pelvis. My baby is 8 months old and my husband and I are thinking of trying again at the start of next year. Have any of you suffered with SPD in your first pregnancy and not had it again in subsequent pregnancies?
Any advice would be gratefully received!
Thanks!

Hello there,
I have just been diagnosed with SPD and am due with my second baby on 10th September, Sam is now 9 months old so the age gap is very small this is why the physio thinks I have SPD this time as didn't get it first time round. I believe that once you get it, it's more likely to occur in subsequent pregnancies but not necessarily. I am in so much pain now as supposed to use crutches all the time which is impossible with a small baby to look after, I have asked to be induced early but docs aren't interested, feel like crying sometimes and am thinking it's going to be so much easier with two babies than trying to cope with one in so much pain xx

Hi
I too had severe SPD in my first pregnancy. I was on crutches, it was the most painful thing ever. Had to be induced too and then the unbearable SPD pain became even more unbearable (didn't think it was possible) when my contractions started.

It totally put me off having any more children especially as it took about 6 months to recover from the SPD. Had decided I would never go through it again. But when my son was 9 months old I accidentally got pregnant! It was a major shock and I went to the docs to ask what would happen to me!!! He said he didn't know as he'd never come across anyone who had SPD get pregnant again so quickly and he recommends women wait at least 2 years. I felt really silly!
Anyway, luckily for me I didn't get it so bad the 2nd time round. It was always there on and off randomly but I certainly wasn't in constant agony like the first time.

It's been nearly 11 months now since the 2nd birth and I still get SPD twinges.

So, dunno if I've helped, prob not lol, but I would say go for it but remember that they do advise you to wait 2 years

hello i suffered terribly from 13 weeks with my son, he is now 2.5 and i am still seeing the physio although it has become more bearable. I fell pregnant last year and the spd came back straight away at soon as i peed on a stick! unfortunately i miscarried that pregnancy at 10 weeks but I am now pregnant again (5.5 weeks) and have just felt the first twinges in my groin and hip today....grrrrr! So in my experience, I waited 2.5 years and it didnt seem to make a bit of difference, so I personally would say go for it! good luck x

I suffered with SPD mildly (only affected one leg) in my first pregnancy (DS was born in Feb) and I am currently pg again and having a c-section late December. The SPD has returned and this time it is worse, but still currently bearable.
I believe this is because I've fallen pg so quickly. When Peanut arrives there will be a 10.5 month gap between my two babies!

xx

My DD is nearly 2 and I suffered from 17 weeks with her and was signed off at 26 and on crutches from 28 weeks. I had an elective section due to the severity of my SPD and I still had grumbles and twinges every now and then. I am currently 21+6 weeks pregnant with No.2 and the pain started at 10 weeks, I was at the dr's yesterday and have just been signed off work. Im not looking forward to the next 16 weeks or so (hopefully being sectioned at 38 weeks again) as the pain is getting worse with each week passing. Im seeing a physio and chiropracter and don't think it will be long before Im on crutches again. It does seem to get worse and earlier with subsequent pregnancies Im afraid.

Hi, I am on my 2nd pregnancy - 30 wks on Monday - and I have just recently been getting v bad pains with spd again - its making moving around & sleep v difficult!! My DS is 2 past end of June and although I suffered when pg with him - its worse this time.. Been trying paracetemol plus all the other things the midwife suggested but it doesn't help much. Haven't been offered a referral to a physio but might see if I can get this week - thats why I am online at 4,10am by the way - can't sleep with the pain!!
