Subject : Rhesus Negative / Positive blood types
I was reading one of my conception/pregnancy books today and it mentioned that there can be problems (which are easily solved) if you're rhesus negative and your partners rhesus positive. I already know I'm rhesus negative but was wondering whether our GP will check my husbands blood type when we're pregnant?
I'm perhaps asking the wrong forum given that this is the planning, but wanted to see here first! x

Yes they will check your OHs blood. If he is positive then you will be given injections 2 or 3 times during your pregnancy. This stops your body rejecting the baby. One of my close friends was in this situation and it caused no problems.

They don't check the father here but if he goes to give blood they will tell you. It won't do any harm to get the anti-d injections even if you don't know your OH's blood type. The midwives were determined to give me anti-d despite the fact I knew my hubby was negative (he has a gold card for donating blood because hes o neg)!!! I refused and said I knew that because we were both negative that the baby would be too. The eventually left me alone.
If in any doubt, just get the injections lol!

I am rhesus negative aswell. Suspected all along I would be as both my mum and older sister are. So I had the anti-D injections. They didn't test russel, i know quite alot of people who are negative so personally think it's a pritty common thing x

I am rhesus negative and they never checked hubby's blood group (we knew what he was as he gives blood). I had to have all the injections as we went along the pregnancy and when Lily was born she had the same blood group as her dad, so poor mummy had to have another injection then too! xxxx

Hiya
Im rhesus negative and they dont test the dads here either.
With my first pregnancy they didnt give me the anti D injection till after i had lo as he was rhesus positive but this was 5 years ago.
With my second lo i was due to have the anti D at 28 weeks but due to having a very small bleed i had it a week earlier at 27 weeks, then i had another anti D after lo was born as he was rhesus positive the same as his dad.
It never caused any problems but you do have to tell midwife straight away if you get any bleeding
