Subject : HELP - she keeps playing with her lady bits!!

This has bene going on a while now but everytime you undo chloe's nappy she puts her hand straight down there!! when she poos, it often is all up front and back if you know what i mean (sorry tmi!!) and so keeps putting her hand in it Surprised

We have tried telling her no in a stern voice and telling her it is dirty (she's 15mths btw) but to no avail! she's now also trying to get in there when she lies on her back by trying to get in through the leg bit!!

I really don't like it and want to stop it but other than what we have tried got no ideas. She's been doing this for at least a couple of months now

Anyone else experienced this and what did you do??

Hi hun,
Im afraid i dont have any advice as Lea keeps doing exactly the same! I really dont like her doing it but i think it is a stage they all go through! At first she always played with her belly button but now keeps putting her hand down there everytime i change her nappy and usually ends up with poo on her finger! sorry tmi.
Thet dont know any different and expect they are just wondering what it is and will get bored of it soon...hopefully! xx

i think the best thing to do is not make a fuss and to try and distract her, it is a stage they go through, i remember my sister doing it! JJ always has his hand "down there" as soon as the nappy is off...we just tap his hand and say it'll bite LOL! he just laughs at us though so it doesn't make any difference lol! x

Poppy does it all the time and has done for months now. I just ignore it as it's a perfectly natural part of their development and to reprimand them for doing it could cause 'issues' in later life - it isn't dirty, they're just exploring!
Having said that. I do ask her to wait till I've cleaned the poo first then just leave her to it!!

I think its quite normal really and a firm no and removing her hand is all you can do. Lucas does it too but I suppose you expect it from a wee boy!

i take it you would clean his hand first mrsjbourne??!!! lol!!!

at least she isn't alone. i don't ahve a problem with her exploring her bits as such it's just that is isn't a clean area and she is just so quick at it!!

Yep Summer does this. I just try to distract her by giving her something shes not allowed. She grabbed a handful of poo the other day. And she nearly had it in her mouth.
l think you just have to be quick. lts a phase they go thru.

donna is right, when i did my psych degree (some moons ago) we did developmental stages they go through phases e.g. oral (putting everything in their mouths), anal (sometimes holding onto poo so that they enjoy the release), genital (playing with bits)

its is perfectly normal and apperntly the more fuss we make and telling them its dirty, rude, wrong etc can cause lots and lots of problems when they grow up.

the hv is right too that boys and girls play with their bits because they like it and how it feels.

I don't think it's an issue really, I dont really think it's a dirty area for a baby (unless she's pooed in which case I would give her something else interesting to mess with lol). I would let her do it while you get the nappy on!! Gabe knows where his willy is and he messes with it sometimes but in general he isnt interested in it !! Very odd for a lil boy! xxx

I can sympathise as my eldest son who's 3 doesnt leave his tink alone. He'll sit on the sofa right in front of the window and go for gold lol. Tbh i hate it too! But i know its only normal so i try to distract him and now that he's getting older try to explain simply to him that its something to do in private and not in front of other people or in public etc. But dont worry. I know it seems awful and i hate seeing him doing it but it is normal ans she will grow out of it xxx

Charlotte does this too but has not done it quite so much lately. I don't mind her doing it it's just when she gets in there and she's done a nasty poo.

Cally has done this since about 6 months. I was a bit surprised at first as I thought it was more boys that did it - maybe just cos they don't stop!!!! I remember my son fiddling as a baby but not my older daughters but they are 24 and 23 so have probs just forgotten. I don't say anything or try and stop her unless she has done a poo - when I would probably have given her something to hold first anyway to keep her still. If she has just weed I try to get her wiped as quick as poss so when she fiddles her bits are clean - and I always wash her hands after too. It is natural for her to want to explore her body - no different from playing with her toes or her nose!
