Does anyone know at what age lo's start to show signs of remembering things? James is just over 2 and if you ask him what he's done/seen that day he just stares at you as if you're mad. If you ask him questions he just says yes or no to everything so you can ask him if he had tea with an alien and he'll say yes. I'm not worried about this just curious and wondered if any of you with older ones can recall when they started to talk about they're days.

Memory?

Hi

My lo is 27 months and he remembers family members names and calls people their name without being prompted. He also remembers if he asks to do something and you say 'we will do it tomorrow', he asks again the next day. He remembers things like if he has fallen and you ask him a few days later where he hurt himself, he will tell you how and where it happened. He uses 'yes' and 'no' in the right context when asked a question and he tells you when he sees a car, bus, van, police car, ambulance, fire engine, train, plane and numerous different animals and what sounds they make. But when it comes to what he has done that day he's not too good, he will tell you he has been with nana/grandma/mummy/daddy and that he has been out, but he cant tell you specific details about his day. As with your lo nessellis, if I asked him if he's had dinner with an alien he would say yes, lol.

I think they must remember things from being very young, but it's only as they are more able to put words together that they fully understand how to tell us what they have done, so although they remember what they have done, they don't know how to say it.

Memory?

Sounds just like Isaac, he says yes to everything you ask him or no depending on how the mood takes him. I dont know when they start to remember things like that but when we drive up the main road past where my sister lives he always says auntie Karins house, likewise when we go past his nursery he always starts relling off the names of the people he goes with, he also says boats and ducks if we are near the river, and when we were driving to the woods, we were still on the road, not near the car park and he started saying walk with squirrels so I think they remember things but maybe dont yet know how to have a conversation about it.

James is totally like that. He will remember things that he does regularly like if you ask him what we do at swimming he will say kick kick splash splash but he can't seem to remember that we've been swimming that morning by tea time! As I say I'm not worried I was just wondering when we can start having that kind of conversation without it being completely one sided.
