Subject : Others experiences of SPD....

Hi all, Just after a bit of help really.
I was diagnosed with symphysis pubis dysfunction about 4 weeks ago and have been signed off work for the rest of my pregnancy. Its quite painful at the moment and Im getting a little worried about the birth of my baby.
I was hoping to have my baby in the closest hospital to me which is more like a birthing centre but they dont deal with complications and dont offer epidurals. I really dont want to have to go to another hospital which deals with c sections etc as it is a lot more busy and my partner doesnt have the option to be there wth me outside of visiting hours unless Im in labour whereas in the first hospital he can come and go as he wants and stay over night on the sofa bed in my room.

Have any of you ladies had any experience of SPD and what was your labour like?
Did you have the option of a normal natural birth or did you have to have an epidural?

I will be asking my midwife at my 25 wk app. but dont want to pester her until then and just would like to know what sort of birth I would need to prepare myself for
Many thanks in advance

i was diagnosed with spd with my daughter and had normal birth no epidrual in birthing center but today im only 13+4 and have been to see gp on midwfies advice and he thinks ive either got spd, pelvic girdle pain or irritable hip sydrome (had this when i was younger)
anyway, i have been told bascially its a hospital birth for me, he said no one will tell me i cant have my planned home birth but would recommend hospital birth due to pain.
Only thing I was told today and last time is not to let them put your legs in stirups when you have spd, it will hurt! (as you know most comfy with legs close together)
good luck xx

hi just crashing from baby, i had spd and was signed of at 31 weks when i went onto crutches and was nearly housebound from about 34 weeks. I had a normal delivery with just pethadine and gas and air. I was only pushing for 44 mins and the mw said that women with spd often have quickr deliverys because there pelvis is that bit more seperated to begin with. Just be really careful with how far they make you seperate your legs when i had the 2nd dose of pethadine i was a bit out of it and i'm sure my legs were opened more then thy should have been. Unfortunatley i still have problems whenever i have a period now but lots of women recover very quickly after birth, infact i was of my crutches within a day or so of birth and was fine till i had my first period at 6 weeks, but as i say lots of women are fine.
xx

Hi, I had really bas SPD, was on crutches for the majority of my 2nd and 3rd trimesters, and pretty much bedridden for the last month.

I found I noticed the SPD at the start of labour, but by the start of established labour I couldnt feel any pain at all. I had an induced birth, with only gas and air and it went fine.
I had a tear, and my legs were put in stirrups for thw stitching, and I found I was comfortable with this and I havent had any problems since (birth was 2 weeks ago). I was worried about how the SPD would affect me as it was agony for the last month of pregnancy, but I found it had way less impact on the birth than I was expecting.
